LOUISA, KY., — Lawrence Countians have been asking the question of why they have to drive to Paintsville or Ashland to take drivers tests. Also some questions about getting a marriage license in the county clerk’s office.
The Lazer contacted Lawrence Circuit Clerk Jodi Parsley today (Monday) and she gave the following answer:
“KSP is trying to get caught up on the backlog of people waiting to test.
They could get that done much quicker if they pulled all examiners to one site in their region to test each day.
Also, all counties had a huge amount of people waiting to take written exams and they needed a large room to be able to social distance. So they are making appointments to make sure they don’t have too many at one time.
Hopefully they’ll get everyone caught up and then back to Lawrence Co. But even when they do, it’ll be slow because they will have to limit how many can come into the testing room.
It’s all so stressful. Everyone trying to get the job done with the new guidelines.
We are working on split schedule to social distance and when we are there, we are working late hours just to get caught up on court matters and also the mailing of DL for people who must do the mail in option.
We are taking Driv Lic appointments as well for anyone who needs to transfer in, sign up for written exams, CDL drivers.
We will be thrilled to get back to normal. But for now, we will do all we can to stay caught up.
I still don’t know when they will be back to Law Co. I hope to hear from the KSP examiner supervisor soon.”
County Clerk Chris Jobe said citizens can have access to services by signing up for an appointment. He did not say if his staff is also alternating.
