DAWGS GET DEFENSIVE IN DISTRICT WIN OVER POWELL CO. 43-7

Stanton, Ky. — Lawrence County ( 6-1 ) moved one step closer to a District title after a 43-7 victory over Powell County ( 3-4 ) on Friday night.

The Dawgs moved to 2-0 in Class 3A District 8 play and the Pirates fell to 1-1. 

Braxton Davis had two interceptions and a touchdown for the Dawgs Friday.

On the first possession Braxton Davis intercepted a Pirate pass and returned it back to the 17 yard line and on the next play Luke Fetherolf tossed a 17 yard touchdown to Gray Derifield and it was 6-0 Bulldogs. 

Fetherolf to Carlo Chicko for a 25 yard touchdown and Kaden Johnson tacked on the two point conversion to make it 14-0 with under a minute left in the first period. 

Bulldog defensive back Andrew Ratcliff intercepted a pass a returned it inside the five yard line and in the next play Mitchell Frazier scooted in for the touchdown and Brayden Queen tacked in the extra point for a 21-0 lead. 

On the next Powell Co. possession Braxton Davis picked off his second pass and went 52 yard for the pick Six and Queen made it 28-0 Dawgs. 

Kaden Johnson went in from 4 yards out and Queen made it 35-0 with 4:28 left in the first half and the running clock was in effect the rest of the game.

In the third quarter Fetherolf connected with Eddie Chicko for a 31 yard touchdown and Jordan Baker tacked on the two point conversion to make it 43-0 Bulldogs. 

Powell County avoided the shutout with a 74 yard touchdown by Connor Morguson from Layne Rogers and Braxton Snowden added the PAT to set the final score of 43-7. 

The Bulldogs will return home next Friday night against Estill County who is 1-1 in District play and 4-3 overall.

“… Proud of our team for a hard fought district victory. We challenged our team to be dominant this week and our staff feels like we accomplished that tonight.” 

“… We have had a great three weeks of practice and I believe that showed tonight. We will enjoy this one for 24 hours then turn our focus to a good Estill County team on Sunday.”
