Daily Independent offices are on the move

ASHLAND — The Daily Independent will be on the move soon.
The newspaper will relocate from 226 17th Street to the sixth floor of the Community Trust Bank building at 1544 Winchester Ave.
The move will take place over the course of a few weeks, as the newspaper plans to be fully operating in the new location by mid-July. The goal is to have no interruption in operations throughout the process.
The Daily Independent’s history dates back to 1896. It has been known as the Tri-State Independent, Ashland Daily Independent, The Independent and now The Daily Independent.
The newspaper originated in Catlettsburg before moving to Ashland in 1900. G.F. Friel was the first publisher.
The Daily Independent has been on 17th Street since 1912, when it constructed its own building. The size of the building increased during remodeling and continued to grow when operations expanded into adjacent structures.
The publication changed to a morning delivery cycle in May 2003 after being a weekday-evening paper for more than a century.
The Daily Independent closed its long-standing press in 2020. HD Media currently prints editions five days a week.
Owned by CNHI LLC since March 2002, the newspaper has a consistent online presence at dailyindependent.com. It prints editions on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (weekend edition) and supplies a small E-Edition on Tuesday — all in addition to special sections, quarterly magazines and more.
The Daily Independent strives to be the go-to source for news throughout northeastern Kentucky.
It will host an open house at a future date to be announced.
The building at 226 17th Street will be placed on the market. More details will be available soon.
