Stanville, Ky. — Prestonsburg defeated Lawrence Co. 4-2 to win the 58th District baseball tournament on Tuesday at Betsy Layne High School.
Senior Owen Pack put the Bulldogs ahead with his first ever varsity home run in the second inning, The Blackcats scored the next four runs to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Lawrence Co. scored a run and had the tying run on second base but ground ball to second base ended the ballgame.
Braxton Davis started on the mound going 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, five hits, strikeout and walked two and suffered the defeat. Boedy Maynard went 2 and 2/3 innings of relief giving up one earned run, three hits, struck out one and walked one.
The Bulldogs ended up with six hits, Pack homered, Gray Derifield singled and drove in a run, Max Murriell doubled, Grant Cochran and Eli Caudill both singled, Brady Caudill scored a run.

In the semifinals of the 58th District tournament the Bulldogs ousted the Bobcats to advance to the Regional tournament.
Grant Cochran earned the win with 4 and 1/3 innings of work, he allowed five hits, two earned runs, four strikeouts and one walk. Grey Derifield was credited with a save after going 2 and 2/3 innings, striking out five, allowed no hits and walked one.
Braxton Davis singled, drove in a run and scored once, Boedy Maynard doubled and scored a run, Cochran singled and drove in a run, Derifield singled and scored a run, Owen Pack singled, Maddox Fletcher drove in a run and Brady Caudill walked twice.
The 15th Region Baseball tournament will be held at Stonecrest Sports Complex in Prestonsburg on Memorial Day

“… Tough loss in a big game Felt Braxton and Boedy both pitched well enough for us to win behind another solid defensive game for us. We are just struggling to plate runs over the last bit and that was the difference last night. Tip my hat to Pburg. Their pitcher made pitches and their defense made some big plays in key moments.”
