ASHLAND, KY — A Boyd County, Kentucky man pleaded guilty on Thursday, August 18, to charges of sodomy and sexual abuse.
Larry R. Whitt, 63, of Ashland, KY., entered a guilty plea to eight charges, in exchange for 17 1/2 years in prison.
Whitt, who was a well-known local blues musician, appeared via Zoom from the Boyd County Detention Center. While Boyd County Circuit Judge John Vincent recited each of the eight charges to Larry Whitt, the disgraced musician appeared to keep his head down, stating “guilty, sir” to each charge.
Larry Whitt was indicted in August of 2020 on multiple sex crimes, after he was accused of molesting a girl beginning when she was the age of 11 years old. He has been incarcerated in the Boyd County Detention Center in Catlettsburg, KY. since his arrest on September 9, 2020.
Prior to accepting the plea agreement, Judge Vincent made sure the child and her family, as well as law enforcement, agreed to the terms of Larry Whitt’s guilty plea agreement. The final settlement of this plea agreement involving all parties in the child sex crime case, in a movement effectively putting an end to a legal ordeal stretching for around at the edge of two years in Boyd County Circuit Court.
The child’s guardian ad litem; a lawyer appointed to serve the best interests of the young girl; said the victim wished for a plea agreement to avoid testifying in court.
Judge Vincent gave his order in court to set the sentencing date tentatively for Larry Whitt for Thursday, October 20 at 1 P.M.
