On April 18, 2020 Arnold (Bird) Mills, jumped into the Tug River. It is assumed that he jumped off a Kermit W.Va. area bride, in an attempt to evade the police who were in foot pursuit.
On April 19, 2020 at 11:50 a.m. divers with the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team entered the water of the Tug River, in search of Mills. They had boats and divers in assisting with the search.
April 22, 2020 search teams from Ashland, KY that are specially trained in locating and recovering victims of water tragedies was on the scene in Kermit W.Va. The search had been ongoing for four days, assisted by The Kermit Fire Department, Martin County, KY React and Rescue and the West Virginia State Police. The State Police also assisted with the search by bringing in their bloodhounds, to pick up scents.
The search was called off early on April 25, 2020 due to bad weather conditions.
After weeks of searching, the body of Arnold Mills was recovered. His body had been spotted floating in the water by a Martin County motorist. The motorist followed the body down the river, at Yellow Creek near the Martin-Lawrence County line, until rescuers arrived.
This is a tragedy for the Mills family and friends and the community. We are all saddened by the loss of Arnold Mills. Prayers for his family and friends.
Very heartbroken for this family. God bless them all
My prayers to his family. So sorry for this loss. May God be with family and friends.
My prayers and thoughts is with the mills family may the good lord be with you in this time of mourning
I’m sorry for your loss and my condolences are with the family and friends and the community also 🙏 and I will keep all of yas in my prayers 🙏
Sorry for thenloss of this young man wasn’t worth a life or anyone’s in that matter , question is was it worth the foot chase to the police that was chasing him ?????? God be with the family if this tragic loss our prayers are with you all
It’s not the police dept fault he jumped. They were just doing their job and this young man chose to jump. God bless his family and community but no one should blame the cops for doing their job. This young man could have just talked to them and taken the consequences for whatever he did. Instead of taking the responsibility he chose to run. Decisions have consequences and unfortunately cops pay the price in public outrage etc for doing the job they are paid to do. It’s bad all the way around and I pray for them all but at the end of the day if there is any blame to be placed it’s on the young man not the police.
So sad Stacy you would put anything like this on here sounds like you need to get a heart.
Yes he may not had to jump but could they wait any longer to try to find him?
Stacy, I agree with you 100%. I’m an ex-convict too! The difference is that I stood and took accountability of my actions when I had every chance of running and possibly making my circumstances worse like in this case. Don’t listen to anyone who says you need to get a heart. It isn’t your fault you have more of a brain then them!
Prayers for the family. This is a senseless tragedy that is no one’s fault but the young man who jumped.
Right now this family is grieving the loss of their and you do not need to put your opinion on here about whose fault it is it is in very poor taste to say anything other sorry for their loss we are all human we make mistakes and he was a young man ! He made a choice that is obvious but please let this Family grieve and your personal opinion and advice is not needed at this time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dee you need to calm down. Sometimes people need to hear the truth no matter what. And his family knows what happened and they need to hear what people are thinking and feeling. And everyone has an opinion. Some chose to voice it. You caring on like u did was also very unacceptable. What I’m saying is also unacceptable. So leave the family be.
You are correct..Life is a series of choices.
We are all responsible for our choices and where they lead us. That doesn’t make anyone heartless; it’s a fact.
People like you who want to blame others for your own poor choices and mistakes is one of the things that will ultimately destroy this country. It’s about time folks remember how to obey the law and take responsibility for themselves.
Praying for all involved may god be with you. So sorry for the family that lost their precious loved one May god bless you and heal your broken heart.
Yeah Stacy you say that now but if it was your son being chased and forced to jump to his death you would be the first one at the newspaper office. It’s easy to talk crap because it doesn’t involve you but if our police departments weren’t money hungry entities that if they don’t have money to continue doing their “mission” then they go out and Target their own people. To me you shouldn’t be paid to be a police officer! It shouldn’t be a full time job for one person it should require a different person every hour if we have to do it that way to try and keep honest people in the position or at least so the same people can’t keep making the same mistakes! Then maybe we could keep our police departments completely honest or as close as it can be because of so many involved per shift that all the laws and regulations can be monitored and enforced properly! My heart goes out to the families that have been affected by police brutality. Because in the end were all here together and once we learn that we must love our enemy’s just like our friends maybe we can tackle this police problem but as long as we keep shooting each other I don’t see an end to this problem for along time.
Your comments are not needed either. Leave the family alone. They have a lot on there plate……and no one forced him to jump off that bridge. The police were doing there job…..and you nor I know what this person had did to be running in the first place. Please grow up and see people for what they are. My mom always said if you didn’t do anything wrong then you need not worry. But if you do something wrong then you have to suffer the consequences. Simple cut and dry. And only an idiot would blame the police….
Well it’s media that doesn’t explain why they were chasing him, or what he did to chase him. That’s the problem. There’s no explanation here!
Either way, it’s tragic and my prayers are sent for all, healing for the family and forgiveness for the boy and the cops! Let’s all not judge till the media tells the two sides of the story!
So family, police get together and don’t leave it unrest to be misjudged?! What happened?
Stacy is right the young man should have just stopped and face the consequences. It’s not the fault of the police the young man decided to jump and they didn’t make him I’ve always heard IF YOU DO THE CRIME YOU DO THE TIME. I’M sorry for the family for there loss, but it’s the fault of there son no one else.
Even if you are innocent you do the time the corporate ran prisons got to fill those beds or they impose a fine on the state for every empty so profit is there no guilt needed that’s probably why he ran everyone gets put in prison in corporate America
{censored} that idiot!!! I don’t support the police, but I ALSO DON’T RUN FROM THEM!!! He caused his own death and a lot of county money being wasted looking for him. He got what he deserved
It is what it is. Part of the problem with the world is blaming others and not accepting responsibility for your own actions! Actions have consequences!!
Facts are the facts.. a young man sadly lost his life over his own choices. Let this stand as a lesson to all young men & woman don’t run from the cops. Don’t put blame where blame don’t belong they where just doing their job and yes they had the right to chase him he had no right to run or choose to jump period! Prayers for his family at this I’m sure devastating time may god comfort you and show you light and understanding
For all any of us know this young man may have accidentally fallen into the water. And you are mistaken if you don’t believe that innocent people can and do go to jail all the time. The only things we know for sure are that a young man has died and his loved ones are grieving his loss!
I agree with Carol, Justin and others. The young man apparently had committed a crime and ran from the police. Those are the facts. Growing up, my mother always said when I screwed up, you made your bed now go and lie it! Bad choices rarely come out good. You have to feel sorry for the family but I am sick and tired of the police catching hell every time they arrest somebody. Liberal people in this country are killing us! Stand up for America for a change!
