A new legal motion that was filed by the defense attorney of the alleged suspect in the Amber Spradlin murder case appears to lay the groundwork for how the defense plans to fight the murder charge.
Amber Spradlin’s body was found the morning of June 18, 2023, at the home of prominent dentist Michael McKinney in Martin, KY., in Floyd County. Amber Spradlin had been stabbed at least 11 times in the neck and head.Michael McKinney’s son, M.K. McKinney, was charged with Amber Spradlin’s murder.
As first reported by Lexington,KY. television station WDKY Fox 56 News M.K. McKinney’s attorney, Steven Romines, filed a legal motion to obtain the full polygraph results for Roy Kidd, Amber Spradlin’s friend who went with her to Michael McKinney’s home the night before she was murdered.
In the defense motion, Steven Romines stated that Roy Kidd gave “inconsistent and misleading statements” to police the day after Amber Spradlins’s murder, and that a polygraph test conducted on June 28, 2023, only raised more questions.
“In layman’s terms, Kidd ‘failed’ the polygraph as to every question asked, including whether he (Kidd) himself stabbed Amber Spradlin,” the legal motion said.
This new defense legal motion raises additional questions about Kidd by claiming that he was the first person to discover Amber Spradlin’s body, that Kidd’s blood was found at the crime scene, and that Kidd was the person M.K. McKinney had called 911 about before the murder because of his “violent and out of control behavior.
”Steven Romines said in his legal motion that the defense is entitled to the results of the polygraph because Roy Kidd is considered “the essential witness in the prosecution.
”The defense legal motion is expected to be argued during a pretrial conference that is tentatively scheduled for on Thursday, October 24, at 2:00 P.M., at M.K. McKinney’s pretrial court hearing.
