Special Meeting

April 24, 2024

LCHS at 6:00 PM

The Lawrence County Board of Education held a special meeting at Lawrence County High School in the library on April 24, 2024, at 4:30 PM. Board members Jim See (Chairman), Maddlene Roberts (Vice-Chair), Barbara Robinson, Garnett Skaggs, and Susie Rice were all present in person.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. See.

In student learning and support services, the board approved several consent agenda items.

In the claims and orders of the treasurer, Dr. Fletcher discussed several expenses including fuel, items requested by the music department, also youth service center, and office supplies. The board approved granting annual permission to bid out the Special Education Department Services: Orientation & Mobility Services, Psychological Services, Physical Therapy Services, and Speech-Language Services for the 2024-2025 school year.  They also approved the 2024-2025 Annual National School Lund Program (NSLP) Community Eligibility Provision (DEP) Intent to Participate, Procurement Certification, and NSLP Indirect Cost Agreement.

In the Superintendent Search Process, the LC Board approved the charge and criteria for the Superintendent Screening Committee.  Ms. Maddlene Roberts was approved as the board member representative on the Superintendent Screening Committee.

The LC Board also approved the Superintendent Screening Committee and the appointment of a new Superintendent, to include the screening committee being formed by April 26, 2024.  Mrs. Prince to provide the Board’s charge, criteria, and confidentiality training. 

 

On May 10, 2024, at 4:00 PM applications will close, and committee members will have access to all completed applications.  On May 30, 2024, the committee reports its recommendations to the LC Board. The date of June 13, 2024, is the target date to appoint the new Superintendent.

The board meeting was adjourned.

The next Regular School Board Meeting will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at LCHS at 6:00 PM.  All residents are always invited to attend the Lawrence County Board Meetings to become aware of the issues affecting our students and schools. The meetings may also be viewed virtually through the public viewing link. A copy of the most recent Lawrence County Board agendas and meetings may be found on the current Lawrence County District webpage at www.lawrence.k12.ky.us.
