AEP Foundation awards $55K grant to Leadership Kentucky, supports BRIGHT program
ASHLAND, Ky., July 31, 2024 – The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation recently awarded $55,000 to Leadership Kentucky in support of its BRIGHT program, which is dedicated to growing the next generation of leadership and retaining top talent within Appalachia. Kentucky Power recommended the grant as part of a broader initiative to support educational and community programs that promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the regions it serves.
The BRIGHT program is a flagship initiative established in 2019 to provide the next generation of leaders with essential networking and leadership development opportunities. Program goals are designed to inspire a commitment to participate in the growth and prosperity of Appalachian communities and address the pressing issue of workforce retention in eastern Kentucky.
“We are excited to support Leadership Kentucky’s BRIGHT program,” said Amy Elliott, vice president of external affairs and customer service. “Investing in the development of our future leaders is crucial for the economic and social vitality of our service area. Through this grant, we hope to empower young professionals to stay in eastern Kentucky, contribute to our communities and drive positive change.”
The $55,000 grant will be utilized to enhance the BRIGHT program’s curriculum, expand its reach and recruit participants, ensuring that a diverse group of emerging leaders can benefit from this transformative experience.
“Through partnerships with organizations like Leadership Kentucky, Kentucky Power is dedicated to making a lasting, positive impact on the communities we proudly serve,” Elliott said.
The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) and its operating subsidiaries. The Foundation provides a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving higher dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP’s 11-state service area. As an independent, non-profit philanthropic organization, the Foundation is funded solely by AEP through shareholder dollars.
The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, and by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger. Other Foundation support may be offered to protect the environment, promote healthcare and safety, and enrich life through art, music and cultural heritage.
