At Addiction Recovery Care (ARC), a leading provider of treatment and recovery services in Kentucky, nurses are a critical part of the care team for individuals recovering from substance use disorders.
“When you or a loved one enter treatment for a substance use disorder, you want to rest assured that trustworthy, compassionate medical professionals are the ones delivering care. We’re fortunate to have a staff of hardworking nurses at ARC who truly want the best for our clients and are committed to supporting them day-in and day-out,” said Pat Fogarty, senior vice president of operations at ARC.
Clients at ARC receive medical services from a full team of health care professionals that includes nurses, doctors, counselors and peer support specialists.
“Many individuals who come to us for addiction treatment are also suffering from other physical health problems because of their substance use disorder,” said Fogarty. “We want our clients to be healthy enough to focus their energies on working toward recovery. That starts with addressing any co-occurring medical conditions that have gone untreated, and our nurses are with them every step of the way.”
People with substance use disorders are at higher risk for other major medical conditions, such as chronic pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, liver disease and hepatitis C, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
“I’m grateful to be able to use my nursing background to help our community members achieve long-term recovery from addiction. It’s extremely rewarding to witness and play a small role in these transformations and stories of hope,” said Paige Ross, a registered nurse and vice president of health care operations at ARC. “At ARC, our nurses are doing more than just delivering exceptional health care. They’re using their experience and talents to help their fellow Kentuckians find hope and freedom—and they’re one more encouraging voice in our clients’ lives saying that recovery from addiction and a healthy lifestyle are indeed possible.”
ARC is one of a growing number of organizations encouraging students to pursue careers in nursing, and more specifically, to consider entering the field of addiction treatment.
“A career in nursing empowers you to make a difference in your city or town,” added Ross. “The work you do has real-life impacts that will benefit your entire community.”
“We recognize the vital role nurses play in our mental health care system and are grateful for the discussions taking place at both the national and state levels to ensure a strong nursing workforce for the years to come,” said Fogarty.
Demand for addiction treatment continues to rise as the new year gets underway and substance use continues to rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic. ARC leaders are pointing to one federal initiative, the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program, as an example of what can be done to ensure we have the mental health workforce we need to be effective in helping more people reach and sustain long-term recovery from substance use disorders.
ARC is currently hiring nurses for its treatment centers in Owenton, Booneville, Springfield, Wallingford and Louisa. For more information and to apply, please visitarccenters.com/careers.
