“How do we live in a COVID world?”
Dr. Rob Fletcher asked board members that question during Monday night’s BOE meeting.
He followed up by saying that communication between school leaders, teachers, students and families, is key to being successful when virtual learning begins on August 26, 2020.
Board Chairman Heath Preston voiced concerns regarding virtual learning and internet access for students when there is more than one child in the home saying that no child should be punished due to multiple children being in the home.
“Internet access could be challenging due to the amount of time each student may be required to be online,” Preston said. “Having no internet in the home or situations where both parents have everyday jobs, is a major concern.”
Dr. Fletcher responded by assuring board members that these concerns are at the forefront of the minds of school leaders and that solutions are beginning to take shape. He informed the board that hot spots have been ordered so that students can use school parking lots as internet access points.
Fletcher also stated that giving students more time, communicating with families, giving students guidelines, finding ways to become more flexible and allowing small groups of students into the school at designated times, could also be possible solutions.
Dr. Fletcher says the goal is to get students back in school but that Lawrence County Schools will comply with the recommendations set in place by Governor Andy Beshear.
Mutual of Omaha has informed school leaders that there will be financial consequences if the Gov. recommendations for the school year are not followed. The agent did not mention what those consequences were.
Board member Jim See asked about the MAP testing for the year and Dr. Fletcher said that the plan was to test students in Oct. of this year.

7. ADJOURNMENT
How stupid is it to set up hotspots at the schools. Lawrence co is a poor county people can barley afford the things they need, they sure don’t have the money to go set at a school
But they will sure go to Wal Mart and McDonald’s daily!!!!!
Send them back with no social distancing and no masks. Let’s do this school year hunger games style. Survival of the fittest.
