LAWRENCE CO. SUPT Dr. Fletcher has posted the results of the parent survey this morning on which method they preferred their kids return to school. 40.9% selected the non-traditional or stay at home option, 39.5% selected the traditional/at school option and 19.6% selected the hybrid or alternating home/school option.
Interestingly the Lazer poll this week had a similar question and almost exactly the same results.
With these results the hybrid option has been eliminated leaving the traditional and NTI option the only two. Students will either attend 5 days a week in person or 5 days a week using the NTI option.
For those who selected the hybrid option someone from your school will be contacting you so that you may select one of the other two options.
One very important note for the NTI option, if you selected this option the student must remain home until Christmas as the school will need that two week break to plan for changes
Dr. Fletcher states they will continue planning using the results of this survey, the results of the staff surveys, and the guidance documentation released by the Kentucky Department of Public Health and the Kentucky Department of Education. Fletcher also stated you will be informed as final decisions are made as there are still many decisions remaining.
One question will be if on-line only students will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports.
Start date is August 26th for Lawrence County.

July 6, 2020
To All Parents/Guardians of Lawrence County Students:
As you know, we published a survey for each of you. While there were many questions that provided us valuable information, the question with the greatest impact centered around which instructional option that you preferred for your student. Here are the results of that question:
- 40.9% selected the non-traditional, or stay-at-home, option.
- 39.5% selected the traditional, or in-person/at-school, option.
- 19.6% selected the hybrid, or alternating home/school, option.
With these results, we are eliminating the hybrid option. Moving forward, parents/guardians have 2 options for educating their students in the 2020-2021 school year. Now, students will attend 5 days a week for in-person, at-school classes (or full time at school). OR, students will attend 5 days a week using an NTI-like system (or full time at home). We will continue planning for the upcoming school year based on the selections you made in last week’s survey. If you selected the hybrid option, you will be contacted by someone from your school so you may select one of the two remaining options that works best for you and your family.
There is one more important note. If you selected the NTI/at home option, your student MUST stay at home until Christmas. We will need the two-week break at Christmas to plan for changes, if students are added for in-person instruction.
Next, we will continue planning using the results of this survey, the results of staff surveys, and the guidance documents released by the Kentucky Department of Public Health and the Kentucky Department of Education. You will be informed as final decisions are made. Here is a timeline of decisions and information that has been released so far.

Students may attend school either full time at school or full time at home. The hybrid option was eliminated. Also, parents and guardians were informed that all “at-home” students must participate from home until Christmas break.
Finally, there are numerous decisions in upcoming weeks. We will have to decide on how to provide at home instruction, how to transport students, how to provide breakfast/lunch, how to schedule students during the school day, and much more. You will be informed as more details are available. We appreciate your patience and appreciate your being…
All In,
Robbie L. Fletcher, EdD
I think if they can play sports they can be in school I don’t see a difference!
Exactly
If they are allowed to play sports, then they should go to school.
Still my children will not attend in class school at all. Thanks.
Democrat??? Stay home then
John what does being Democrat or not have to do with choosing to keep your kids home for their safety? Most all parents are keeping them home do they arent forced to wear a mask 8 hrs a day bc it’s hard for adults to do so. Plus it’s not healthy!
You’re a damned idiot!! Stop talking if you cant say something of importance! Crawl back to your hole. And leave people alone.
I believe John was referencing the poster’s name Diana.
Bla, Bla, Bla
Get out of here!
Since when is wearing masks, no activities, eating at you desk, etc. Traditional? Just funny how they word play.
I think they need to be in school turn the gym into bedroom keep them there till school year end keep them out of trouble and keep virus spread down.
That’s going a little too far. Turn the gym into a bedroom. I don’t know about all of that but I think it should be up to the parents if they want to send their child to school or not . It’s going to be hard to keep mask on young kids. Good luck doing that!!
If they can play sports and interact with other kids than they can go to school as well. I don’t see no difference.
You must have been home-schooled yourself. Apparently you can’t read. The story clearly states you have a choice of sending your kid to school or keeping them at home.
Grandparents are raising a lot of these kids that go to school. COVID-19 kills the elderly and those with underlying health issues. They simply can’t take the chance to send their grandkids to school where virus spreads very quickly just like the flu. Until a vaccine is made then keep your kids at the house, not for them but for the elderly. Start school back and watch COVID-19 spread like wildfire. School children won’t wear their masks correctly all day long either. Also what about elderly teachers and bus drivers. Wait for the vaccine and don’t be an idiot. Stay home.
Exactly Chris.
We aren’t living in “traditional” times. Stop trying to live “traditionally.” This virus is serious. Things are going to be different for awhile. It’s easy to see what’s going to happen when kids go back to school.
I do not see why they do not do both. If parents want to send their kids to school and it is open do so. And if the parents want to keep them home ok. I do not see the problem. Alse being a Democrat , Republican or Independent should not be an issue. It should be the responsibility of the parents or Grandparents to decide whats best for their child and household.
Are you another idiot who couldn’t read the story? You have a choice: send them to school or have them do their work online. Open your eyes!
Your children are being hurt by not having face to face instruction at school. They need to be out of the house socializing with other children. We, the people, are being controlled. Next they will be FORCING you to be vaccinated with who knows what. This is the first step to having your freedom taken away from you. Stop arguing with one another and work together to stop this insanity. All of this COVID propaganda is political to break our government down. Make no mistake there are other countries interfering right now because they see one of the strongest nations on Earth destroying itself from within. Send your children to school people; they will be fine.
