ASHLAND, Ky., April 24, 2019 – In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day, Kentucky Power is giving away thousands of low-growth tree saplings to customers on Saturday.
The saplings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last beginning at 9 a.m. in Ashland, Hazard, Pikeville and Whitesburg. There is no charge for the trees.
Four varieties will be available at all locations: eastern redbud, hazelnut, gray dogwood and roughleaf dogwood. Supplies are limited, so customers should plan to pick up their saplings early. Customers may not reserve trees or place orders in advance.
In Ashland, Kentucky Power has teamed up with the City of Ashland and Ashland Community and Technical College to combine their annual tree giveaways. Additional varieties donated by the City of Ashland will be available at this location, including some hardwoods.
“Kentucky Power’s annual tree day is one of the ways we are giving back to the communities we serve as we celebrate our 100th anniversary this year,” said Cindy Wiseman, managing director of external affairs and customer service for Kentucky Power. “The low-growth trees we offer are great for planting around homes and will not grow so tall that they interfere with overhead utility lines or structures. Plus, planting trees is an excellent way to improve the environment, add beauty to the landscape and improve air quality. We have some customers who come by every year to get some trees to add to their landscaping.”
