Kentucky woman allegedly took nude photos of daughter, 4, for boyfriend; Judge refuses bond
A Pikeville woman accused of making pornographic images of her 4-year-old daughter to share with her boyfriend has been ordered held without bond.
Christina Brook Mitchell, 29, wanted to be released pending trial, but U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins ruled there was no set of bond conditions that would protect the public.
Mitchell is charged along with Jonathan Edward Manigault, who lives in South Carolina but whose location is not known, according to a court document.
Mitchell, who has three daughters under age 8, told police she and Manigault had been dating about two years.
Police contacted Mitchell at her house in Pikeville in June after receiving a tip that she had photos of her daughter in a sexual pose on her phone.
There was a Facebook Messenger chat on Mitchell’s Apple iPhone that had multiple photos of one of Mitchell’s daughters in a “lewd pose” with her genitals displayed, Atkins said in his order.
The phone also included sexually charged texts between Mitchell and Manigault in which Manigault described what he wanted to do to the children, according to testimony from Hallie East, a special agent with the FBI.
There were allegedly messages between Mitchell and Manigault in which he instructed her on how he would like the children posed for photos.
Mitchell told police Manigault had told her several times that he was sexually interested in the children, Atkins said in his order.
Mitchell told police she had taken her children with her to visit Manigault in South Carolina, and that he had visited them in Kentucky, East testified.
Manigault told Mitchell he had touched one of the girls while she was away at a night class.
“The weight of the evidence regarding danger in this case is substantial as facts established by clear and convincing evidence show that the defendant, Christina Mitchell, actively participated in the production of lewd images of her own children for the satisfaction of another without acting in any way protect them,” Atkins wrote.
Mitchell is charged with producing and distributing child pornography. Manigault is charged with producing and receiving child pornography.
They face at least 15 years in prison if convicted.
Mitchell pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial in January.
