Four killed in Crittenden County fire, state police say
SALEM, Ky. — Kentucky State Police said four people, including an infant, were killed in a fire Sunday morning in Crittenden County.
Firefighters responded just before 7 a.m. to a home on Watson Cemetery Road in Salem, a community of fewer than 800 people near the Crittenden County-Livingston County border.
The four people pronounced dead at the scene by Crittenden County Coroner Brad Gilbert were Kenneth Belt, 75; Lindsey Dickerson, 26; Waylon Hillard, 31, and Nathan Hillard, 1.
Kentucky State Police said witnesses were able to remove a 6-year-old child from the home. The child was not injured.
The fire’s cause is under investigation but foul play is not suspected, according to police. Salem is about 60 miles southwest of Henderson.
In addition to Kentucky State Police, responding agencies included the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office, Crittenden County EMS, Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department, Animal Control, Crittenden County Fire Department, Tulu Fire Department, Crittenden County Constable, Kenergy, Salem Fire Department and Red Cross.
