Roberts signs up for BOE, Parsons for council…
LOUISA, KY. — After several days of rumors floating around town, former Lawrence Co. School Supt. Eddie Wayne Michael registered Wednesday to run for Louisa mayor in the November General election.
Michael, 62, said his main concern is the sewer system, which, he says is not tolerable if Louisa is to grow and prosper.
Michael and his wife, Sue, live on Perry Street and he says the stench from drains are stifling in dry times in the city.
Incumbent mayor Harold Slone signed up to run back in June and a newcomer and little known candidate, James Allen Pauley Barker, signed up to run last week. he did not return calls for comment yesterday.
“Every person I have talked to in Frankfort about why we aren’t getting a medium sized factory of some type here says it is the sewer system,” Michael said. “Companies look at that type of infrastructure presence when they decide on a place to locate.”
He said Louisa has the rail, interstate and the river which puts it in a great place for development. “But we have to get this sewer system fixed correctly and not in 2025 like the present mayor says,” Michael added.
The mayor’s race has taken on a new meaning since the present city council voted earlier this year to raise the salary of the mayor from about $12,000 to $50,000 per year. The council also raised council members pay by $50 per meeting.
Also registering today was incumbent Louisa Council member Tom Parsons and BOE candidate Maddlene Roberts.
Candidates have until August 14 at 4:99 pm to sign up to tun in the November General Election.
