KENTUCKY STATE POLICE ARREST ROWAN COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER AFTER THE MAN WAS ACCUSED OF ARSON

A HUMAN ‘FIREFLY’: EDWARD STEPHENS III, 21, OF MOREHEAD, KENTUCKY; WHO IS A VOLUNTEER FIGHTER, WAS ARRESTED ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10 BY KY. STATE POLICE ON CHARGE OF ARSON, AFTER HIS WIFE SQUEALED TO TROOPERS THAT SHE WAS WITH HIM WHEN HE SET THE FIRE HE LATER REPORTED. STATE POLICE ARE NOW LOOKING INTO THREE OTHER FIRES REPORTED IN THE LAST YEAR BY EDWARD STEPHENS, RAISING THE POSSIBILITY THAT HE MAY BE A SERIAL ARSONIST.

A Rowan County, Kentucky man who is a volunteer firefighter was arrested by the Kentucky State Police after he is currently facing an arson charge.

Firefighting crews were called out during Thursday, October 10, about a fire at a home in the 3000 block of Open Fork Road in Morehead, KY.

Firefighters told Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead that the home had been vacant for years.

KSP Post 8 troopers reported a caller told their investigators that a man, who was identified as Edward Stephens III, 21, of Morehad, KY., had messaged them, and had asked them to report the fire, saying it would look suspicious for him to report the fire because he worked for the local fire department and that he had reported three other fires in the last year.

KSP Post 8 troopers later contacted Edward Stephens’ wife, who confirmed that she was with her husband when he started the fire.

Troopers subsequently arrested Edward Stephens III on the charge of *ARSON, 2ND DEGREE.

Edward Stephens was transported to and booked into the Rowan County Detention Center in Morehead; where he has since been released from the jail after posting his bond.

Kentucky State Police are continuing their investigation into this arson case, and other fire cases, including the past three other fires that were reported by Edward Stephens
