Louisa, Ky. — Lawrence Co. softball has a new man in charge after longtime assistant Sam Sparks was named Head Coach last week replacing Justin Adkins.

Lawrence Co. went 30-5 last season and won the 15th region championship before losing in the first round to McCracken Co. 11-8 in an absolute barnburner.

The Bulldogs return a very good nucleus that includes Seniors Bree Jones, Gracie Preece and Abby Maynard, Juniors Taylor Blevins and Ella Smith and a loaded Freshman class led by Jada Patton, Adalynn Woods, Aleah Gillispie, Lexi Crum that is ready to make another run at the state tournament in Lexington.

Bobby Preece, James Jones and Stacy Jones are all expected to return to the coaching staff and work with Sam.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Just really excited to continue to build on what this program has been able to do over the years. We have some really good players coming back and from top to bottom we have a chance to be really good for a long time.”

“… Kenny Horn did a great job over the years and enjoyed working alongside him and learning and hope to continue that for years to come. These girls have had 3 coaches in 3 years so hopefully we can find some stability and keep moving forward. They are not only great players but also great students and great kids. Can’t wait to get started.”
