ATV ROLLOVER ON DIRT BIKE RACE TRACK ON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS RESULTS IN SEVERED ARM

JULY 13, 2024 – written by WADE QUEEN
ISABELLA “BELLA” THOMPSON

On Monday evening, July 1, 2024  a vehicle accident occurred in Louisa when a side by side rolled over at the BMX track on Town Hill Road, causing a young passenger, identified as Isabella “Bella” Thompson, 17, from Martin County, KY., (and had just graduated from Martin County High School in May), to be very seriously injured.

Driving the all terrain vehicle was Luther (Luke) Wellman, who is from Louisa, who had recently become a certified EMT and was able to perform life saving measures on Isabella Thompson and aide in preserving her arm which had been nearly severed.

Isabella Thompson was first airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, but her injuries were so too severe, even for a designated trauma care center treatment at St. Mary’s, young Isabella had to be transferred to the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, where she is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit, and she was still undergoing surgeries as of Monday, July 8. Isabella Thompson is expected to recover with what her family members say minimal use of her hand due to the extensive damage to her arm.

In fact, just a couple of days ago, Isabella’s close relatives wrote on their FB page that she was reportedly making positive progress, and even had begun moving her fingers on her injured arm. But late Thursday, July 11, her parents revealed that Isabella suffered a setback, when the day before on late Wednesday, medical tests revealed that she had a fungus infection in the surgically repaired wound area of where her arm was re-attached, and that she now has been running a spiked fever.

There has been an outpouring of support in the Martin County & Lawrence County communities for Isabella Thompson and her family, everybody wants to see the fullest recovery possible.
