Sheriff Thompson has 51 drug arrests in first six months

Sheriff Rick Thompson announced the arrest of 2 suspects from Lawrence County following investigations by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Drug Enforcement Unit. The US Marshals Cuffed Task Force Unit arrested Keith Penix and Kevin Smith on Wednesday afternoon.
Penix was arrested in Louisa and is charged with Felony Methamphetamine possession. The other suspect, Kevin Smith was charged with a felony delivery of a controlled substance.
Peinix is being held at a local KY jail. Smith was transported to WRJ.

SUSPECT ESCAPES CUSTODY ON FOOT
Sheriff Thompson released statement earlier today regarding incident on Camp Creek Road at Lavalette that occurred on Thursday afternoon.
A Wayne County Deputy responded to a domestic dispute call in the early afternoon on Thursday. Upon arrival of scene, the deputy saw suspect (Frank J. Scarberry) flee in a vehicle. The vehicle drove through a field and the driver then fled on foot. WCSD Deputy made foot pursuit until suspect had gone in to woods at which time the deputy lost sight of him and requested back up.
The suspect has not been arrested at this time. WCSD Deputy has filed two charges in the case, domestic battery and fleeing from an officer. Sheriff Thompson urges suspect turn himself in to authorities to face pending charges.

* Suspects arrested: 51
* Felony Drug Warrants Served: 126
* Search Warrants Served: 11
Sheriff Thompson acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Drug Enforcement Unit, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, US Marshals Cuffed Task Force, WVSP (Wayne Detachment) and all other local agencies who have assisted.
Sheriff Thompson states that “being present on most of the warrant/arrest sites brings to reality the drug epidemic the area is facing”. He also states that the fight against drugs that he and the department have waged on this issue will continue. He encourages all residents to be vigilant in assisting the department in this task.
