Cast additions, special guests announced
Prestonsburg, Ky. – The 2017 summer season for Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry will kick off Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Willard & Lucy Kinzer Theater at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC). The opening act for the season will be the talented youth with the Kentucky Opry Jr. Pros.
This will be the organization’s 27th season, and their 21st performing in their home, at the MAC. Crowd favorites such as Garland Rogers and Susan Scott will be returning. As well as the usual comedic antics of Munroe.
Many changes are ahead for the show as well, including a new set design, some new elements to the light show, completely new songs and medleys, and fresh faces on stage. Rachel Messer is the newest member of the vocalist group, while Michael Stevens (Guitar), Matt Scofield (Mandolin), and Houston Howard (Banjo) are additions to the band. Information and bios on each new member will be released as the summer progresses.
“We could not be more thrilled for this season’s show,” said Clayton Case, MAC Executive Director and Kentucky Opry emcee.
“The new songs and additions we have made are really exciting and will once again showcase the talent and people that are involved with our organization. We have been very pleased with our rehearsals and we are ready to present a great product to the community.”
Similar to last year, the show will once again feature special guests for certain weeks this summer. Nashville recording artist and former Jr. Pro Brittany Taylor Hamilton will be the special guest on June 24. On July 1, they will welcome home founding member Misty Daniels. Local singer/songwriter Jason Goble will be featured on July 8, and former Kentucky Opry vocalist Jerica Blair will have a guest spot July 15. Additional guests will be announced throughout the summer.
