LAWRENCE CO. BASKETBALL DOWNS PHELPS IN 60TH DISTRICT ACTION
Louisa, Ky. — The Dawgs and Lady Dawgs both picked up their first district wins of the season on Saturday night at Home against Phelps. Both Boys and Girls teams improved to 1-1 in 60th District play.
Lawrence Co. 56 Phelps 48 ( Girls )
In the first game of the doubleheader the Lady Dawgs ( 7-10 ) fell behind 10-0 in the first period and trailed 31-23 at halftime before righting the ship and putting the clamps down on the Lady Hornets ( 6-6 ). Lawrence Co. outscored Phelps 35-17 in the second half to get the victory.
Lexie Ratliff led the Bulldogs with 22 points including 12-12 at the foul line, Hannah Rucker hit 4 three pointers for her 12 points, Sheree Hay tallied 8 points, Kassidy Cavins chipped in with 6 points, Semarra Akers and Kelly Davis both had 4 points. LC went 17-22 from the line and hit 5 three pointers.
Danielle Prater had 15 points and Gabby McCoy tallied 12 points for Phelps.

Lady Dawgs will return to action Monday night hosting Prestonsburg.

In the nightcap it was the Bulldogs jumping all over Phelps 21-4 after one period to take the sting out of the Hornets right off the bat. The Dawgs led 36-19 at half. In the second half it was more of the same as LC poured it on to get a runaway district victory.
The Bulldogs put three in double figures including the nation’s leading scorer Timmy Dalton pouring in 37 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Alex Gilliam tallied 11 points and Jared Wellman chipped in with 10 points. Trey Dotson hit 2 three pointers and finished with 8 points, Tyler Maynard and Alex Ratliff hit a three pointer for 3 points, Jordan Johnson and Westin Hardin had 2 points each.
The Dawgs went 11-15 from the line and hit 7 three points in the decisive win.

The Dawgs will return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Paintsville and then host South Floyd on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.

“… We fell behind early and couldn’t buy a basket early on, we continue to struggle to shoot the basketball, we are off balance when shooting the ball and keep missing easy shots around the basket.” It was good to battle back and get the win. Was proud of the girls in the second half the way they responded.”
