LC LIBRARY MOTIONS

The LC Public Library, 102 W. Main Street, Louisa, Kentucky 41230, had a Regular Board Meeting on Monday April 8, 2024 at 12PM. LC Public Library Director, Carlie Pelfrey was in attendance along with President Marc Lester, Vice President Susie Chambers and member Lennie Collins. Absent were James Alley Pauley Barker and Kim Burchett.
MARCH 2024 MINUTES
The March 2024 Minutes were passed unanimously with a Motion by Lennie Collins 2nd by Susie Chambers.
FEBRUARY 2024 FINANCIAL REPORT
The February 2024 Financial Report was passed unanimously with a Motion by Susie Chambers 2nd by Lennie Collins.
LAWRENCE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Trish Shepherd and Debbie Miller (below) were guests of the library board monthly meeting. Shepherd spoke about the dangers of overdose here in Lawrence County and how having an Emergency Overdose Kit at the library could possibly save lives. A Motion was made by Marc Lester 2nd by Susie Chambers. The employees of the library will be trained on how to apply this life saving product. There are around 5-6 businesses around Louisa that already have these kits with Narcan in them.
Naloxone Storage Box Project Makes Lifesaving Narcan Available in Lawrence County
Lawrence County Health Department’s Harm Reduction Program is working to combat the increase in drug overdoses by installing Naloxone Storage Boxes throughout the county making the lifesaving medication available to anyone who wants it. Naloxone – also known as Narcan- is a nasal spray that can be given to someone suffering from an opioid overdose. It blocks the deadly effects of opioids on the brain and restores consciousness and breathing.
Lawrence County’s age-adjusted rate of drug overdose deaths was 69.5 in 2022. This is one of the highest rates in Kentucky. “Increasing access to naloxone is critical to decreasing the number of overdose deaths in Lawrence County,” said Debbie Miller, Public Health Director. “We are committed to raising awareness about the need for everyone to carry this lifesaving drug.”
The Naloxone Storage Boxes improve the capacity of bystanders to save the lives of victims of opioid overdose by increasing access to Narcan. The boxes were funded through a grant from the Kentucky Department for Public Health. Each box contains two naloxone 2-dose kits. The kits are free to anyone wh needs them. They have easy-to-use instructions to administer the drug. Trish Shepherd, Harm Reduction Coordinator, said, “We want to flood the community with naloxone. Our goal is to keep people alive.”
Bystanders should call 911 immediately and then administer naloxone as directed. The boxes will be checked by health department staff frequently and restocked whenever needed.
