Area Patriarch was Revolutionary War soldier
The Wayne County Genealogical and Historical Society’s Saturday June 18th noon meeting will be at the Queens Ridge Cemetery near Cabwaylingo State Park. We will be honoring, celebrating and setting Revolutionary War Soldier James Maynard’s Military Head Stone. It was only recently discovered that he was buried here.
Everyone is being invited to attend. It is reasonable to suspect that he has thousands of descendants. We will also be inventorying the cemetery for our next cemetery book, volume #5.
Bring your own picnic lunch (brown bag). We will have drinking water. This will be a great experience and I am sure we will all have a great time. There will be signs after you leave Rt. 152 going towards the park. In case of rain we will meet the next Saturday, at noon, June 25th. The GPS is 38 01’21.45n 82 16’02.07w
We are past the half way point of the donated funds needed to purchase the road side marker to Honor James Maynard. It is estimated it will cost about $1,975.00 and we have gotten $1225.00 in donations. If you wish to donate, please make your check payable to “WCGHS” for the “James Maynard Marker”, and send to “WCGHS, PO Box 787, Wayne WV 25570”. We are keeping records of your donations and will order the marker as soon as we have the needed funds. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
