Halloween Costumes and Political Candidate’s Masks

Dr. Glenn Mollette
Halloween and the election are really close. People will hardly have time to take off their scary costumes before entering the voting booths. It is unclear as to what will be the most frightening, the scary costumes or the candidates. The outcome of the election will be the scariest because after the election the candidates will take their costumes off. Currently, we aren’t totally sure who they really are. We know what they say and what the opposition says but we won’t really know them until a year or two later.
Halloween costumes conceal a lot. A mask covers the face and an outfit can make you think someone is a monster or an angel. That is one of the reasons Halloween is so much fun. The children can become their favorite character or make up a character. The children try to be scary, funny or a super hero. The fun is dressing up and going out. The goodies received from generous households are cool but the adventures lie in dressing up and going out.
My first stop was always at my Grandparent’s store for a free candy bar. Of course, they always knew me but pretended they didn’t and mad a big deal about my Halloween garb. That was the fun part.
Fortunately, I don’t remember anything too frightening about Halloween and that’s a good way for us to celebrate the day. Keep it fun and very safe. Stay close to your children and be very cautious and on the look out for the little ones.
Unfortunately, Halloween won’t be over for the political candidates until after the November election. They will be in their finest costumes and promising better treats than the opposition. Will they really deliver the treat or are they tricking us for our votes? The scary part is we never know for sure who and what we will have until way after the election. Most of the candidates believe what they are saying at the time, but delivering what they are promising is different.
Prepare yourself for Halloween. Stock up on some candy, but don’t be the one who eats it all. Halloween will come and go quickly. Go to the polls and vote. The election day will come and go. The results of the election are what will go on and on. We have to live with the results for a long time. The results can be much scarier than Halloween.
Try your best to determine who the people are and what they stand for before the election. We will find out weeks and months later but it’s better to know as much as possible when you go to the polls.
