KENTUCKY SECRETARY OF STATE ANNOUNCES HIS OFFICE HAS PURGED 319,000 DECEASED KENTUCKY VOTERS SINCE JANUARY 2020

SEPTEMBER 8, 20206 – written by WADE QUEEN

SECRETARY OF STATE OF KENTUCKY, MICHAEL GENE ADAMS.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams announced on Friday, September 4, that 318,918 deceased voters have been removed from Kentucky’s voter rolls since he took office, bringing the total number of all removals since January 2020 to 753,181.

“We’ve vigorously purged voters who have moved away, passed away, or been put away,” Micahel Adams said. “Kentucky is a national success story for clean elections.”

During this just past August 2026, 3,664 voters were removed: 3,233 of them deceased voters, 258 who moved out of state, 74 duplicate registrations, 65 who were adjudged mentally incompetent, 18 who voluntarily de-registered, nine identified as non-citizens, and seven who had been convicted of felonies.

Despite ongoing list maintenance, Kentucky’s voter registration continues to surge with 8,266 new voters registering in August, that means net registration rose by 4,602.

Democratic registration accounts for 41 percent of the electorate, with 1,371,014 voters. Democratic registration rose by 260 voters, a .0019 percent increase. Republican registration constitutes 48 percent of the electorate, with 1,624,505 voters. Republican registration grew by 1,849 voters, a .11 percent increase. There are 386,382 voters registered under other political affiliations (mostly Independent), making up 11 percent of the electorate. “Other” registration jumped by 2,493 voters, a .65 percent increase.
The registration deadline to be able to vote in the November General Election is Oct. 5.
This coming November is the all-important midterm election, where voters will have plenty of races to decide. Among them, the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Mitch McConnell of Louisville, who is not seeking re-election.
In addition to the US Senate race, Kentucky’s six Congressional seats, all 100 in the Kentucky House and the even-numbered state Senate districts, will also appear on the ballot, along with district judge races. There will also be many local city and county races up for grabs.

To register to vote, you can go online to: https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb, or visit your local county clerk’s office.
