Welcome to a New School Year!
As we open our doors this Wednesday for the start of the school year, I am filled with overwhelming excitement and gratitude. Entering my third year as superintendent and 32nd year as an educator, I am reminded that every August brings new opportunities, fresh energy, and renewal for students and staff.
This year, “new” is truly our focus across Lawrence County. Above all, our top priority is ensuring that our school system is always here to fully support our children every day. We are constantly seeking new ways to strengthen our classrooms and ensure that every school in our district feels like a place where everyone belongs. In Lawrence County, our schools are more than just buildings. We want them to be a safe, welcoming, and encouraging second home. That sense of belonging is why we proudly say #LCisHome. When someone feels comfortable, valued, and connected, real learning happens.
We are also celebrating exciting new district initiatives this year! A major highlight is at Blaine Middle School, which was awarded the prestigious $1 Million STAR Academy grant—one of only five schools in all of Kentucky to receive this honor. This grant brings brand-new classroom furniture and student learning resources specifically for our 7th and 8th graders, alongside specialized training for our teachers to lead hands-on, interactive student learning.
We are also thrilled to share news about our long-term vision for facility growth! On July 1, the district officially completed the purchase and became the proud new owners of the local community center. We have contracted with an architect firm and construction managers to begin the planning phases for a major remodel. The current plan is for the renovated community center to become our new home for preschool and kindergarten, while moving first grade into a newly remodeled back wing at Louisa East Elementary.
These projects will remain in the planning and design stages throughout this fall, with the hope of beginning physical construction and renovation in early spring of 2027. Our goal is to officially open these new spaces for students by the start of the August 2028 school year.
None of these achievements, fresh starts, or future plans would be possible without the unwavering support of our Lawrence County community. Thank you to dedicated staff, families, and community partners who walk alongside us every step of the way. Your support brings success.
