Huntington, W.V. —  Marshall Senior and former Bulldog Bryce Blevins was outstanding on the mound as the Thundering Herd ( 9-8 ) opened SBC play with a 5-2 victory over Georgia St. ( 10-9 ) on Friday at Jack Cook Field.

Blevins congratulated by his teammates after another strong inning.

Blevins went 8 1/3 innings and improved to 4-1 on the season. He had a shutout until the Panthers struck for two runs with one out in the ninth. Charlie Krebs recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.

Blevins finished with 10 strikeouts, allowed five hits and walked one.

Blevins fires plateward for one of his 10 K’s on Friday.

On Saturday afternoon the Herd improved to 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play with a 4-2 victory over the Panthers.

Marshall will go for the three game sweep in final game of the series Sunday afternoon at 1:00
