Mobile operation will move south through the district over the next several weeks

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 20, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office advises motorists that nighttime four-lane sweeping operations will begin this week throughout Eastern Kentucky. Crews will start each evening at approximately 7 p.m. and continue working until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Sweeping will begin on the north end of the district in Lawrence County, progressing southward through Johnson, Martin, Floyd, Pike, Knott and ultimately Letcher County. The effort will include cleaning travel lanes, medians, and barrier walls along major four-lane corridors.

This will be a mobile operation, and drivers should expect moving lane closures and periodic slow-downs as equipment advances through the work zones. Motorists are urged to use extra caution, reduce speeds, and watch for crews and equipment, especially during nighttime hours.

The sweeping program is expected to continue for the next two months, depending on weather conditions.

Routine sweeping helps improve roadway safety by removing debris, enhancing pavement visibility, and ensuring proper drainage.

KYTC District 12 thanks the traveling public for its patience as we work to maintain clean and safe roadways across Eastern Kentucky.
