April 3, 1935 — August 24, 2025

David L. Compton, 90, passed away peacefully from this life on August 24, 2025.
Born April 3, 1935, one of 14 children to the late W.D. and Laura Vanhorn Compton. In his young life and while growing a family, he worked in the steam power division of Armco Steel, where he retired after 35 years.
He later entered the world of politics and at the age of 39 was elected Sheriff and later elected twice as County Judge Executive, where he worked tirelessly to make his county and community a better place to live.
In 2010 he left the field of politics to spend time with his family and farm the land he loved so well. Dave was also a member of Apperson Masonic Lodge #195 F. & A.M. He treasured his farm where at one time he had animals of all kinds, and would grow a beautiful, plentiful garden. He loved to take fishing trips with his wife, sons, grandsons, and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Gerri; his mother, father, sisters, brothers, son in law Jack Adams; and father in law Bill Young.
He leaves behind his wife Kathy of 18 years; 5 children: Debbie Adams, Marda Hopkins (Ben), Lance Compton (Tery), Bryan Compton (Sherry), and Michelle Miller (Rick); stepson Julius Musick (Keily); mother in law Matilda Young; 9 grandchildren: Mikel Compton (Heather), Brandy Preston (Heath), Taud Compton (Christy), Kelli Hanshaw (Ryan), Jordan Miller (Brooke), Morgan Miller, Blake Compton (Montanna), Kyla Farley (David), and Emma Musick; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sisters Maris Lucas, Joy McComas, Corlis Barnett, and Janis Hayes; sisters in law Glenda Johnson, Barbara Gray, Debbie Coldiron, and Cindi Wade; brother in law James Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tim Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Compton Cemetery.
Friends may visit the family Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM until time of service in the Young Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel.
Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Compton and his family.
