(EDITOR’S NOTE: The total number of signatures required on all petitions is approximately 705 which is 10% of the total number of voters in the last General election. But petition backers should collect at least 750 to account for duplicates and non qualified signers. Any registered voter in Lawrence County may sign one of the petitions.)
Where is the petition?
We are on a tight time limit. If you want to sign a petition to get this on the ballot please notify one of us. There are several people helping us. We are not against a new school. We actually want 3 new schools. Blaine, Fallsburg and Louisa. We do not want higher taxes. In a county with few decent paying jobs and no industry, we feel this would only serve to burden those on low and fixed incomes along with those trying to provide for their family. This must be voted on by all the voters in Lawrence County. If not everyone’s property taxes will go up.
So, how do you propose to build 3 new schools without money? We all know people like you aren’t going to pitch in and help. The local schools are one of the first things businesses look at before coming to any town. Who would want to move to a town with dilapidated school facilities?
Martin County has new schools doesn’t look like your local school theory worked there
Martin County’s only industry ever was coal, genius! When coal in that area died out, that’s when business left. Your ignorance amazes me.
Joey you mean that coal is the only business Martin County can attract? After saying new schools are the first thing a business looks for. Now you are the slow one.
You have to be in line for a big payday with the building of the new schools
KAG – Wonder who will get to sell the property for the new $27 million Kiddie School (K-2)?
Manage the money you already have or don’t build them. Plain and simple.
They don’t have the money Johnnie! Hence the need for the tax increase. Where do you people get your ideas?
The middle school was built in the 90’s without a new tax. The high school was built in the later 70’s without a new tax. Louisa East was renovated without a new tax. Yes, I’m old enough to know this JOEY.
Admin my money is on Joey
How much is it costing for the sports BS ? Which is more important, education or sports ?
Again, speaking of something you know nothing about. The improvements to the athletic facilities come from totally different sources, grants that are allocated for that specific use. They cannot be used anywhere else.
We pay enough school taxes. The Lawrence County School System receives. The most of every property tax bill. If a property tax bill is 1500.00.The School System receives at least 1100.00 of it.The County and Libary and others divide the rest!!! It is a shame they get enough!!! Bring on the petitions as a lot has all ready signed them!!!
Where do we go to sign this,I’m all in…
I can’t afford any increase I’ll be happy to sign!
532 Hwy 581, Ulysses 41264
So we do realize at least 2 of the people leading this petition have been spreading false information to force the hand of those uncertain to sign this petition. Also these people think the board can snap their fingers and school is built. Also if they are so against please go attend the board meetings and face them face to face not just from behind your screen. But, if you do decide to come have your facts straight first rather than being incompetent to what is going on. It’s great to live in a county so divided on the future.
Please tells us what they are misleading us about?
And I believe one was called out and corrected, and apologized. So yes, please tell what they are misleading us about?
Let’s talk about the bloated Library’s account and the waste of taxpayers money as well as the lack of accountability. The Library’s relevance has deminished over the years with information and books available on everyone’s smart phone. Yet their tax rate has increased over time as they’ve found new ways to waste taxpayers money and avoid accountability. It’s time for tax reform and to return power to Lawrence County taxpayers.
The library SAVED their tax money and what you see is paid for. Saving vs Taxing MORE is a little different
The library receives around 900,000 a year in taxes from Lawrence County Taxpayers….It also spends over $400,000 to keep the lights on and pay salaries a year at the library….This is ridiculous in a low income town
Their tax rate has lowered for the past eight years. Not everyone has access to smart phones, either. It’s nice you don’t have to rely on the library, but there’s countless others that do.
Ever heard of an Obummer phone? Everyone can somehow afford a smartphone.
Fake KAG Obama Phone started in the Reagan years 1985 the GOP God before TRUMP

You need to get your Facts right and not spread lies
No, not everyone can get a smart phone. Low income and food stamps. I am on a fixed income and do not qualify for either one. It would be nice. Maybe someday.
Here’s how I feel, in todays world we are taxed beyond content. Part of me is against the tax simply because it only affects a certain group of people, those who don’t own property will see no affect. But another part of me says these kids need new schools and if I’m going to pay taxes I’d rather it be on something as a new school which is way overdue.
Well you can’t build 3 new schools without a tax. SOOOO🤷🏼♂️😂. It’s just not that simple. And for everybody saying they spent it on sports, get all the information about it FIRST… I promise you the money wouldn’t have even helped towards the new school.
You have my vote for the new tax rate!
#ALLIN
Hey a million dollars is a million dollars. Why blow it on something that isn’t necessary
Upgrades were necessary. Get over it!
We have a grass field since the high school came into existence. I don’t believe it’s NECESSARY.
Times have changed! Every school north and south of Lawrence have Turf fields. Well maybe a few don’t but I bet it’s less than 5….
At least we will be able to say that we have nice schools! We have nothing but restaurants and stores for the graduates to work at, but we have nice schools! We have no money due to taxes, but we have nice schools! Go LC!
I understand most people commenting that they don’t want a new school probably doesn’t have children going there. This school should have been replaced YEARS ago. I currently have a child that goes there and is dealing with upper respiratory almost every other week. Mind you he has been perfectly healthy up until he started going to this school. Our children and teachers deserve better than that. This county can find the money to build a new court house, new library, new football field. But somehow this school that is filled with mold, leaks, electrical problems never seems to be an issue that needs fixed. I will not sign that petition because that school needs to be replaced. Children are suffering every day breathing in that nasty mold.
Use the money Mike Hogan and all the other ones who have stole money repay it and build the schools…..
Bullsh!&
Get a good grant writer and file for grants I can’t afford any higher taxes we are being taxed to death as it is.
Do you folks not realize what this petition is for? It is NOT to take away from having a new school, it is to put the tax to a vote, called “taxation with representation” instead of just 5 people saying ok, WE want a new school, so we will put a new tax on property to raise that money for the school, who cares what everyone else thinks. If the people of Lawrence County want the new tax to builld the school, let them vote on it. That’s all these petitions are doing.
Why is this even up for debate..we have needed a new elementary school for years my daughter went there 11 years ago she stayed sick with respiratory problems constantly coughing and even had pneumonia and then she goes on to the East Elementary and all of a sudden no more problems, I have had many parents tell me that their child always had the same issues when attending the West Elementary it’s time we give the future children and employees that will be attending there a mold free and healthy start come on community let’s make this happen it’s way over due!!
It is up for debate because it always gets made into if people are against the tax increase then they must be against a new school and that just isn’t so. It also isn’t as easy as what Mrs. Madeline Roberts said at the last meeting to just not eat out a couple times a month. I can tell you I am already watching my pennies very closely every month. I work for the school system and am barely scraping by. As an employee of the district I know how the monies works, but as a tax paying citizen I know during this time where inflation is at a forty year high, I can’t afford one more thing. Every single thing we use/buy: gasoline, electricity, groceries, insurance, haircuts, dog grooming, clothes, fast food, etc. The price on everything has increased, but our salaries haven’t budged. Do the math. If I wasn’t having such a hard time financially already, I wouldn’t be worried about paying the tax. I know it is needed. I also know once that dime tax is on there, it never goes away and will keep rising over the years.
Well said
It is time that the theft of our money, under the guise of taxation, to come to a stop.
For or against the new schools isn’t the issue, some commenters seem to be missing that. Every voter should have a chance to say yes or no, regardless of which way they feel about it. No handful of people have the right to make that decision for all. Where can i sign? Post a day and place please.
Someone with a petition needs to stand at the local Walmart. I’m sure they will get enough signatures in one weekend.
Walmart won’t allow them there.
What pisses me off we had this for a vote a few years back and the VOTERS rejected the tax increase. So the Board and the Fletcher Guy thought they could sneak it in again BUT double the original tax Hell NO.
Exactly
they lost out on the matching funds by not voting in the nickel tax the last time
Who cares the voters rejected the Fletcher tax
Where’s my comment Mark? It seems when a certain person is mentioned it is never published. Hmmmm
LOL……Lets Go Brandon !!!
Good to see you back from Waco
Let the people who own property and autos vote and decide whether we want taxed more. The board has showed us in the past that they don’t think the teachers and staff deserve higher pay.
The employees of the board office get the higher pay handed to them. Watch and see if Fletcher doesn’t get a hefty raise if this tax passes.
How will having fancy school buildings help educate our children?
Also where you all eating out at once a month that costs $150-200?
Who is going to pay the tax for the kids coming from WV to Lawrence co. School ? Come on tell us
Lawrence county property owners
It was a great trip KEGS. I also noticed all the great illegal immigrants coming across Bidens open boarder. What was so strange was all of them had their hands out as if they’re wanting something.
Keeping it Real you live in one of the most Dependent Government State in the country. In fact Ky is the 3rd most Federal Dependent state in the country. Behind Alaska and Mississippi
https://fox56news.com/news/kentucky/report-kentucky-is-the-3rd-most-federally-dependent-state/
Some of the most Redest States in the country go firgure that one out.
“Most redest”??? Hahahahaha!!
Keeping it Real see you in New York next week
There open hands were for the rakes and lawnmowers that your too good to use.
Why in the world are they working on the football field!? Oh yeah that’s right sports come first ignorance at it finest we don’t need any new schools! The school system in this county is pure trash if they would maintain the schools maybe they wouldn’t have leaking roofs and what not. Absolutely insane to raise our taxes!!!!!! SIGHN THE PETITION!
There were misunderstandings at first on this tax but it has been clarified by Chris Jobe. Tax rate on homes/property would be 12.5% on top of the regular rate. This is what they call real tax. The “personal” tax is not on autos and such, yet. It will be later. It was worded this way to sneak in tangible tax. The personal tax is tangible tax which will be on every business in the county. Mom&Pop shops, restaurants, anyone with trucks or equipment, flower shops, any business. These will also have the 12.5% tax on top of their other taxes. Later on, autos, boats, etc., can be added.
Why was no maintenance done for 8 years? No excuse. Mold can be killed with proper treatment and cleaning.
Turf is being looked at to determine if it causes cancer due to recent deaths.
When did sports become more important than education.
And to clarify, this is only for the proposed new K-2nd. Only one. In Louisa. No mention of Blaine or Fallsburg. Guess they don’t count.
I hope this answers your questions.
Oh, the library. They and any of the facilities we are taxed for can ask for a yearly 4% tax raise without being challenged. It’s law. We have a very nice library and it is actually very busy. I was surprised. It does so much more than books. Like our petition getting notarized. It’s FREE! Fax service, copy service, lots to offer.
You continue to spread misinformation. Regular maintenance has been done, but there comes a time when regular maintenance isn’t enough. The athletic improvements are being paid for through monies allocated for that purpose. They can’t be used anywhere else. You’re not paying for those. But you have all the answers. We don’t want kids to have nice schools. We get it.
You all know if Comrade Fletcher! Doesn’t get his double nickel tax he is just going to raise the school tax the max of 4% yearly. He will get his money one way or another. Why did he buy all new gas guzzling SUV’s for the board office and a pickup for himself? We need a new superintendent!
They do that about ever year now. Need to get the republicans in Frankfort to change that.
Misinformation? Did you listen to the video? It was brought up then. If regular maintenance has been done why is the roof leaking, gutter pipes rusted and falling off, mold in the building and urinals that haven’t been replaced? Sports has always been a priority. The point you missed and mentioned was that they applied for and got grants for keeping up the sports areas. Why haven’t they applied for some for the schools? We don’t want Louisa to be a ghost town. Look around you. How many of the youth will be able to stay here with no employment? We don’t have many young people staying here now. We want 3, not 1 nice school. We don’t want higher taxes.
What’s really needed is a school board that is transparent and makes responsible informed decisions, and a superintendent that doesn’t feed them and the county misinformation. EVERYONE needs to start checking their facts. To those who feel that a building has caused health problems for their children; Why don’t you hold the board and superintendent who let it deteriorate responsible? They approve how the money is spent. It’s not the fault of the people who paid the taxes, it’s the fault of those who choose what to use the tax money for.
FACT: Grant money is NOT paying for your new turf. Money that could have been used to fix a leaking roof or any number of other problems is. A prime example of misinformation by is that the county saved the school 50,000 dollars by removing the grass. Really? $50,000 to push out an acre of grass and maybe an acre of brush?
Get real, I could hire a dozer operator for a month and a half for that kind of money. Citizens better get their heads out of the clouds and start paying attention.
Fact- The money being used on the athletic facilities COULD NOT be used for building maintenance or repairs. Why can’t you people understand that certain monies are allocated for specific purposes and can’t be spent elsewhere?
BTW – Have you hired any heavy equipment lately?
