Sheriff Thompson stated that Last week the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit initiated a traffic stop on a wanted man who is also known to be trafficking quantities of drugs. The suspect, Shawn ‘Shug’ Risner, fled North on WV RT 152 from Dunlow.
During the pursuit the suspect used his truck to ram a Deputy’s cruiser and then side swiped it. The pursuit went through Big Branch Road and the Black Oak Gap area. The suspect struck the cruiser again as they were maneuvering up a muddy hill. Deputies eventually terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.
The Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit was able to locate a Glock handgun with an extended magazine and a large bag of Methamphetamine that weighed approximately a quarter pound that was thrown from the vehicle.
Sheriff Thompson stated that Risner is charged with Felony Fleeing, Felony Destruction of Property, Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Pseudoephedrine Altered, Assault on a Police Officer, and Prohibited Person from Possessing a Firearm. Risner was already wanted for a parole violation.
Sheriff Thompson would like to thank the US Marshals and Lawrence County deputies for their assistance in tracking down and arresting the fugitive.
It is amazing that they got the sheriff’s department to do anything. Guess sheriff didn’t want any bad press for letting a fugitive run loose in county again.
True I was surprised to! I can’t understand why he ran unopposed. He does nothing for the county.
When’s the last time there’s been a drug bust?
The Sheriff does a great job. Not everyone seeks a pat on the back or recognition every time they do their job. Sounds to me like the people of the county are satisfied with the job he is doing. Especially to have been unopposed. However, Citizen and Yep seems you are jealous for some reason that he is the sheriff.
Lol. Sounds like to me no one ran against him because they didn’t want to clean up the mess he has made out of the department. It is laughable how he runs his office and how little they do.
