Lawrence Co. hasn’t beaten Belfry ( 4-3 ) since a 30-6 win at Home September 2nd 2002.

Both teams are currently undefeated in Class 3A District 8 action and this will be for the #1 seed in the upcoming playoffs and home field advantage.

LC senior Dylan Ferguson looks to help the Bulldogs break a long losing streak Friday. 

All-State candidate Dylan Ferguson has rushed for 730 yards and 11 Touchdowns.

Ryan Marcum, Cody Crum and Talan Pollock have combined for 1,151 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.

The Dawgs fell last season twice to the Pirates including a 21-14 defeat in the second round of the playoffs. Belfry went on to win the State title beating Paducah Tilghman 33-28 in the finals.

Before the game on Friday Lawrence County will be inducting its second Hall of Fame class with a ceremony at the High School at 5:00 pm and pregame recognition at 7:10 on the Track.

Being inducted this year will be Gina Wright, Eddie Wayne Michael, David Michael, Jason Michael, Phillip Ratliff, Gerad Parker, Taylor Porter and Chandler Shepherd.

Gina Wright

Gina is going in as a member of the Track and Field program here at LCHS where she was an active member from 1976 – 1980

* In 1980 Gina won the state championship in shot put with a distance of 39-02.00

Eddie Wayne Michael

Eddie Wayne will be going in as the ultimate trifactor – a player, a coach, and an administrator

* He played football and baseball for Louisa HS  1968-1972.

* He coached football at LCHS in the 1980s, later becoming the principal, and finished his career serving as superintendent.

• Eddie Wayne had a great passion and vision for all athletics not only at the high school level, but throughout the entire county at all levels –  he worked diligently to see that vision become a reality.

David Michael

David played basketball and baseball at LCHS from 1977 to 1980.

• He was a member of the 1st ever District Championship team in school history- 1980 baseball
• All area basketball and baseball/  all – state baseball
• 1st ever Division I signee in LCHS history.

*   In the KHSAA record books for 20 K’s in a single game

• He continued his baseball career at Morehead State University- winning the OVC championship in 1983 and played in the NCAA tournament.

• David has been a pillar in this community his entire adult life- serving as president of the little league, running youth basketball league, as well as serving as pitching coach at LCHS for several years.

Jason Michael

Jason played football, basketball, baseball, and track at LCHS from 1994 to 1998.

* Micheal was all state in football in 1997 as well as the Ashland daily player of the year.

* He continued his football playing career at Western Kentucky University highlighted by being the winning quarterback for the national championship in 2002.

* He was the 2002 WKU athlete of the year.

* Upon graduation from WKU Jason began an illustrious coaching career at the University of Tennessee.

*This career path has taken him to the NFL with stops at several organizations including role as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.

* Jason is currently the Tight Ends coach for the Undefeated Philadelphia Eagles.

Phillip Ratliff

Philip played football, basketball and baseball at LCHS from 1986- 1989.

• Philip was the Ashland Daily player of the year in football, basketball, and baseball.
• He was all-state in all 3 sports as well.
• Philip continued his football playing career at Marshall University where he was a 2-time All American, won the Jacob’s Blocking Trophy and the 1992 National Championship.
• In 1994 he began his coaching career right here at LCHS, before becoming the head coach at Spring Valley High School in West Virginia.
• In 2004 he began his college coaching career at James Madison University – and was a part of the 2004 National Championship team.
• His college coaching career continued with stops at James Madison, Marshall University and the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Gerad Parker

Gerad played football, basketball, and ran track at LCHS from 1996 – 2000.

• He was an All-state football player in 1998 and 1999/ winning Ashland Daily player of the year in 1999.
• He was also an all state basketball player in 2000
• Gerad finished HS football career as the states all time leading receiver in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
• He continued his football playing career at the University of Kentucky where he was an academic all-american.
• In 2006 Gerad began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Kentucky.
• He’s continued his career with many stops along the way including- UT Martin, Marshall, Purdue (where he served as interim Head Coach), Duke, Penn State, WVU and currently coaching tight ends at the University of Notre Dame.

Taylor Porter

Taylor played basketball and softball at LCHS from 2009 to 2013.

• Taylor scored over 1,000 points her JR year and over 1900 for her career.
• She was a 2013 Lex-Herald all state member as well as the Louisville Courier Journal.
• She is the first player in school history to participate in the KY-Indiana all star game series.
• Taylor continued her playing career at Murray State University where she was the OVC freshman of the year.
• She finished her playing career at Marshall University where she averaged 12.3 points/game.
• Porter is the first basketball player in school history to sign a Division I scholarship.

Chandler Shepherd

Chandler played football and baseball at LCHS from 2006 to 2011.

Chandler is one of the most decorated athletes in LCHS history holding several state records-

♦ 1st team all state (3 time)

♦ 2011 All American

♦ KHSAA 5th all time career wins- 40

♦ KHSAA 2nd all time career shutouts- 17

♦ KHSAA 1st all time consecutive scoreless innings- 46

♦ KHSAA 3rd all time career strikeouts – 512

Chandler was drafted by the Chicago White Sox after HS but chose to attend the University of KY instead where he was part of 2 NCAA tournament teams.

In 2014 he was a 13th round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox.

After many years working his way up through the ranks- on August 13th, 2019 Chandler made his Major League Baseball debut with the Baltimore Orioles in historic Yankee Stadium….highlighted by striking out Aaron Judge.

“… It’s been an absolute honor being part of this HOF committee.  A lot of hard work has went into – planning, developing policies and procedures, and then meetings.  A lot of great professionals are a part of this and I’m just happy to be one of them.

“… I had no idea how difficult of a task that this would be- to ensure the integrity of what a HOF should be about.  There are so many unbelievable athletes, coaches, administrators that have came through this county and have laid a tremendous foundation for our athletic department today.

“,,,This year’s class is stacked with some all-time greats.  It was impossible to narrow it down to just the 8 we are putting in, but we felt like this class deserved the induction this year.  No doubt, the years to come we will be able to add some amazing alumni to the list.

“…High school sports are important.  Especially in small town America.  And we’ve had alumni that have gone on to do great things in sport and life.  Each member that has been inducted has beamed with a sense of pride when they receive that phone call about being inducted, and for someone that has dedicated my entire adult life into sports in this county…that is very gratifying.”
