LOVE THY NEIGHBORS’…STUFF: ERNEST P. JARVIS, 50, OF INEZ, KENTUCKY; WAS ARRESTED ON FRIDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 6, ON CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO HIM TO THE BURGLARIZING OF HIS NEIGHBOR’S HOME, AND ALSO HIS REFUSAL AT BEING ARRESTED BY DEPUTIES AT HIS OWN HOME.
A Martin County, Kentucky man has been arrested on burglary and other charges after residents of a home in Inez, KY. said they found him leaving their house after breaking in.
The criminal incident that happened during Friday morning, December 6, took a turn for the bizarre in the Happy Hollow area when the alleged burglar proved to be a neighbor who lives just a stone’s throw away. Ernest P. Jarvis, 50, of Inez, KY., did not slip in and out of his neighbor’s home unnoticed. Instead, he bolted right out the front door as they rolled into their driveway.
The residents told the Martin County Sheriff Office they returned home to find Ernest Jarvis running out the front door as they pulled into their driveway. They also said Ernest Jarvis had apparently cut the wires to security cameras, then broke in and rummaged through the house.
The police arrest report stated that when deputies made contact with him, Ernest Jarvis assumed an aggressive stance and indicated that he would not be going anywhere with officers. The police report further noted that Ernest Jarvis actively resisted being placed under arrest.
After being placed in restraints, the police report says Ernest Jarvis sat down and refused to walk to the police car, but Ernest Jarvis was eventually pulled up and escorted to the vehicle.
Ernest Jarvis was arrested on charges of:
*BURGLARY, 2ND DEGREE,
* CRIMINAL MISCHIEF 2ND DEGREE,
*MENACING, and
*RESISTING ARREST. Ernest Jarvis was transported to and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and he was being held on a $10,025 full cash cash bond.
According to Chief Deputy Chris Kidd of the Martin County Sheriff Office, the 8:00 A.M. wake-up call came when homeowners on Happy Hollow found Errnest Jarvis making his frantic exit from their securely locked home. Before his hasty retreat, Jarvis had already severed the home’s security cameras and treated himself to a rummaging spree inside.
But his panic kicked in soon enough, as once Ernest Jarvis saw the residents returning home, he allegedly fled from the scene so quickly that he broke the top of the screen door.
From there, Ernest Jarvis ran to his own home, apparently hoping for a clean getaway. However, he would have no such luck. as deputy Chris Kidd tracked Ernest Jarvis down at his residence, where the morning’s chaos took on an extra layer of drama.
According to the police report, Ernest Jarvis resisted, pulling away and making it more than clear he was not up for a police escort. That maneuvering plan did not pan out either, as deputy Chris Kidd ultimately subdued Ernest Jarvis and deposited him into the patrol car.
According to deputy Chris Kidd, this was not Ernest Jarvis’ first appearance on the complaint list.
“Mr. Jarvis has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement the past two weeks,” deputy Chris Kidd explained. “He’s been going to neighbors’ houses, trespassing and aggravating neighbors, accusing them of doing various things.”
One notable complaint is when Ernest Jarvis showed up at a local church.
“He concerned the members there at the church greatly, acting erratically,” according to deputy Chris Kidd.
“It’s been an ongoing thing with Mr. Jarvis over the past two weeks but we were able to charge him today,” deputy Chris Kidd stated.
Separately, Ernest Jarvis has a criminal case against him on going in Johnson County, as he was arrested on April 25, 2024, by an officer of the Paintsville Police Department, on the charges of:
*DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE,
*MENACING,
*RESISTING ARREST, and
*ASSAULT 3RD DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER OR PROBATION OFFICER.
Ernest Jarvis was released from the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on Tuesday, December 10, after he was able to post his bond.
