Louisa, Ky — Lawrence Co. Head Coach Melinda Feltner is going into her 12th season and is hoping her Lady Bulldogs will play at a faster pace this season and wreak some havoc in the 15th Region basketball competition.

Senior Sophie Adkins is back after averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds a contest. Seniors Abby Maynard and Addison Bloomfield are set to enter the starting lineup and help the Dawgs back to the region tournament.
Bulldog Junior
Gabby Stinnett
Lone Junior Gabby Stinnett should crack the rotation this season and offset some of production lost from last year’s team.
Bulldog Sophomores
Maddison Artrip, Lilly Fitzpatrick, Caroline See
10th Grader Maddison Artrip will be counted on heavily this year after seeing spot duty during her freshman campaign. Sophomore Caroline See is back after taking a year off and could see some time on the floor.

Bulldog Freshmen
Brynnley Caudill, Jada Patton, Addison Bowen, Emalynn Kitts
Freshman Jada Patton who will be playing her third season of varsity basketball looks to make a big impact on both ends of the floor. Freshman Emalynn Kitts should provide a spark off the bench.

7th Grader Gracie Woods is a name to look out for in the future and quite possibly this season in a varsity role.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“…We lost a lot of leadership from that senior class, but these young girls really worked hard in the offseason and we knew coming in that we would have to replace some scoring, some ball handling and a few other things as well. We had a ton of experience on last seasons team but this team doesn’t want what happen last year to happen again this year. Everyday they come out and work hard, bust their tails and try and get better each time out. I feel like when the regular season rolls around they will be ready. I know they are tired of practicing against each other. They are ready to leave their mark on this program. The three seniors that we have leading them have been great role models, have stepped up and tried to lead in every way they can. I have high expectations for this group like we do every year. So far they have stepped up to the challenge. We will see soon enough when the lights come on.”
“… It’s hard to lose a player like the caliber of Kensley and not struggle a little bit in certain situations and this year we need some one to step up and take the big shot and the could very well be Sophie even more than she did last year. She had a great year and I expect her to do the same or a little bit more. The other girls have worked hard and gotten better as well. I’m really excited to get things going.”
“… I think Abby Maynard is in line for a big year, she has worked extremely hard in the offseason. Maddison Artrip is a tough hard nosed kid who will run through a wall for you. She is shooting well and is exciting to watch on the defensive end. Good to have Caroline See back out who has improved her shooting and ball handling along with our other young guards like Emalynn Kitts who is another tough kid who has improved. All of our guards have put in the work and have a chance to contribute at the varsity level. Addison Bloomfield is a quiet leader who all of the girls lookup to. Gracie Woods and Gabby Stinnett should also see some time this year.”
“… We plan to play fast, press and get up and down the floor. And we think that will help our offense. We are hoping we can play 8 or 9 each night and wear teams down.”
“… The Charleston trip will be even more special this season because we are taking everybody with us so that will be a fun trip. We are in the Bath Co. tournament before Christmas and that will be challenging. We also play Boyd Co. and Russell so we should be ready for the postseason. We probably lost more than anybody else in the District which is always so competitive from top to bottom.”
PLAYER’S COMMENTS
Lawrence Co. Senior Sophia Adkins
“… Man I feel like just yesterday I was in the seventh grade coming up to play high school ball and it felt like a great opportunity and now I’m going into my senior year. I’ve been lucky to have so many role models over the years like Kensley Feltner and I just want this year to go by slow and just try and have fun everyday.”
“… I think this team really plays hard, hustles and is always diving on the floor for loose balls, play great defense and are beginning to talk a little bit more and that will help us tremendously. I think we spread the floor and play fast. We have a ton of team speed.”
“… I’ve heard that Coach Hicks up at Johnson Central has been telling people that no one would come within 20 points of them and we play up there on December 10th so I’m really looking forward to that. They play fast and press and foul. Also the Charleston trip because after the games we can hang out and just spend time together and gain some chemistry.”
Lawrence Co. Senior Abby Maynard
“ It has went be really fast, feels like just yesterday we were in the 7th grade playing together. Just trying to help in practice and become a better leader. Just try to teach them the way we play any way I can.”
“ Looking forward to playing Prestonsburg because they beat us last year in the District tournament. Also the Charleston trip because we have such a big age gap it can really help us bond together and learn about each other.”
Lawrence Co. Senior Addison Bloomfield
“… I can’t believe I am a senior it has went by really fast. I wish it would have went a little slower so I could spend more time with everyone.”
“… The past players have definitely pushed me to do my best and I’m so thankful that I have had good players to go up against that would make me better. And I can use that to my advantage this year.”
“… Looking forward to playing Prestonburg because they beat in the district last year. Also the Charleston trip because we get to bond with each other.”
