ALLEGED FELONY DOMESTIC ABUSER: AMOS R. EVANS, 48, OF LOVELY, KY., WHO WAS ARRESTED ON LATE NIGHT SEPTEMBER 22; ON A PAIR OF RELATED FELONY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES FOR ASSAULTING HIS WIFE.
A Martin County, Kentucky man remains in jail after his wife told police officers he choked her and hit her with a flashlight.
Law enforcement were dispatched to River Front Road in the Lovely area of Martin County just after 10:00 P.M., Sunday night, September 22, over a report of a domestic violence incident in progress. When cops arrived, they found Amos R. Evans, 48, of Lovely, KY., along with his wife, both of whom were standing in the driveway by a van that was stuck.
After separating the couple, the woman told police she and her husband were arguing, when she said that Amos Evans grabbed her by the chin and neck and began choking her. The woman estimated that the choking lasted about two minutes, and that then Amos Evans grabbed a metal flashlight and began beating the van’s windshield with it. She said after he damaged the windshield, he allegedly hit her over the head with the flashlight three times.
The police arrest report noted that the woman had visible red marks on her neck and chin, as well as a large knot on top of her head.
Amos Evans was arrested by deputy Justin Bellamy, and was charged with a pair of felonies:
* STRANGULATION 1ST DEGREE (NON-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE); a Class D felony, which carries a potential prison sentence of one (1) to five (5) years; and
*ASSAULT, 2ND DEGREE – DOMESTIC VIOLENCE; a Class C felony, for which the assault charge being the most serious, carrying a potential prison sentence of five (5) to ten (10) years.
Amos Evans was transported to and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville in Johnson County, where he continues to be held on a $5,025 full cash bond only.
