Lawrence Co. Head Coach Justin Adkins
“…We had to adjust to the pitching today from both teams and I thought we did a pretty good job of that in the later innings especially. We definitely hit the speed better then the soft stuff. Just have to remind them to stay back. But we scored double digit runs again and our pitching has been spot on all season. We haven’t gave up many earned runs all year. Our pitching and defense has been really good so far. We had good senior leadership at the top and those eighth graders at the bottom have been pulling their weight as well.”
“… I thought Taylor Blevins really hit her spots in the first game. It was really windy which messed with her velocity a little but she battled and pitched really well. She is an absolute joy to coach. We go as T goes and that’s the way it’s been. We have to keep her healthy throughout.”
“… In the second game we made three outs on the bases in one inning and I wasn’t happy about that, but I got to remember I got 13 year olds out here even though they have played high level ball I have to remind myself they are still eighth graders. And they are going to make mistakes. Even though I yell at them I still love them and care about them.”
“… Brooklyn Ellis did a good job in the second game. Her and Blevins are 1A and 1B out there. They both can throw pitches in any count I’m not afraid of that at all. Very confident in both girls. Last couple innings they had a few runners on but didn’t get nothing across. That is a testament to her and our defense. Jada Patton made a super play on the line drive to her by throwing out the girl at first base to stop that rally. Really proud of the girls so far.”
