2024 Rogers Scholar Alex DeSario of Lawrence County organized “Coats for Carolina” to support Hurricane Helene victims in the Tennessee/Carolina region for his community service project. Through community donations, Alex collected more than 100 blankets, coats, and other clothing items to assist those in need. “This project has given me insight into what it takes to be an effective community leader,” he said. “I am thankful that I was able to assist hurricane victims during their time of distress.” Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program must plan and complete a community service project within one year after finishing the program.
