Prestonsburg, Ky. — The Lawrence County Boys Golf team finished 12th out of 24 teams in the Johnson Central Invitational at Stonecrest on Monday.
Coach Jackie Holt meets with Senior Alex Meadows, Senior Hayden Perry, Junior CJ Whitt, Senior Peyton Muncy and Sophomore Eli Caudill for some last minute instructions.
It was the first tournament of the year for the Bulldogs with Senior Alex Meadows and Junior CJ Whitt finishing in the top 50 out of 133 total participants.
Senior Peyton Muncy had a 130 yard hole out from the fairway.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“… Last year I had four seniors; Ashton West, Mikey Akers, Tylan Perry, and the 12th Region Tournament winner Reece Hughes. These young men provided great leadership, great examples, and helped me tremendously. They were also great golfers who elevated the program to levels never seen before. I could not have asked for better leaders in my first year than these young men.”
“… This season I have 17 boys that I’m super excited about. We are scheduled to participate in nine 18-hole tournaments, the 2A sectional, and the 12th Region tournament. I have three players that have tournament experience, led by Alex Meadows who played in every tournament last year and improved so much that I am leaning on him to be the leader of this team. Hayden Perry and CJ Whitt played in tournaments last year as well and both are multi-sport players who bring that competitive fire each day. Peyton Muncy is another tournament player that I have trust in. He has put in a lot of hard work and his game has improved greatly from last year. Eli Caudill is a sophomore that is competing in tournaments for the first time, but he is our longest and one of our straightest hitters off the tee. I believe the ceiling is very high for this young man.”
“… We would not be able to compete in these tournaments without the help from our sponsors. Steve Montgomery at Kentucky Farm Bureau, Appalachian Wireless, and Foothills Communications became our tournament sponsors this year. They have been a huge help and I want to thank them for their support.”
“… I’m really excited for the future of the LCHS Boys Golf program. I really cannot wait to see these underclassman progress throughout the season. I have been shocked to see some of them early on already pushing to get in a tournament slot. We have a potential to have 10 tournament level players this year, and that is really amazing for an Eastern Kentucky golf program.”
“… Our schedule this year also includes fifteen 9-hole matches against some very good programs, including West Virginia powerhouse Cabell Midland. It is going to be a very busy fall season for the LCHS Boys Golf team that will only make us better for the future.”
