BLAINE, KY — A brave 14 year old girl saved her and her siblings, 15 and 16 years old who were home alone while their father was at work and the mother had just left to go the grocery store, the police report said.
Two male individuals arrived at their residence. One sat in the car while the other tried to gain entry. The girls called 911 but were in fear the police would not arrive in time.
The suspect began violently kicking on the doors and once he realized they were secure, he walked to the backside of the home and picked up a shovel handle and approached a window with what looked like an intention of breaking it.
An argument between the driver and the man breaking in ensued. Seeing an opportunity, one of the sisters in the home grabbed a 9 mm pistol from a secure area, cracked the front door open and fired a shot towards the direction of the man.
The men left the scene immediately.
The girl who fired the shot was 14 years old knew how to properly load and discharge the weapon without anyone else harmed. Lawrence County Constable, Daniel Castle along with Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Cook, responded to the scene that occurred around 12:30pm in the afternoon.
The children, who were obviously shaken up, gave a brief description of the suspect’s vehicle. A white 4 door van with a dent in the side. The police searched the area for several hours but found nothing.
The mother who had been at the store and only left the residence ten minutes earlier to take a friend to the store, was advised to see the County Attorney Office to file charges. This could possibly be an isolated or random event to endanger that family only but the investigation is still being conducted.
“The young lady in this instance is a hero and did the correct thing,” Constable Castle said. “Educating your children about guns is a must but parents must use their own judgement when their child is mature enough to learn about gun safety or how to correctly use one”.
If anyone has any information that could help, please call the Lawrence County Sheriff Office or call 911.
Editor’s Note: The identities of the victims and or suspects have been omitted from this story.
the girl should have shot the person trying to break in, then there would be one less dope head for the courts to turn back loose in the county
Yeah, its not like that would be a huge weight to put on the shoulders of a 15 year old.
She did the best we could hope for. She is her own hero, no one was hurt and the men fled.
They will get theirs. I have no problem if it is a dirt nap. But 15 year olds do not need to do it if they don’t have to.
Gunslinger I totally agree with your statement. May God bless you! A 15 year old should NOT have to live with killing anyone. Some need a bullet to the head, that is a fact; but a little girl doesn’t need that to deal with for the rest of their life. It is a lot easier to kill, than to live with it.
She done the right thing and more parents should teach their children gun safety. Or if old enough take them to a shooting range to teach them about gun safety.
Wondering why there is a picture of a deputy attached to this story as it sounds like they did nothing but tell the parent to go to the county attorney. If this was a attempted burglary and more than likely property damage why isn’t the officers doing a report and handling the case if know who the people are. From what is being said there is a lot of telling people to go to the county attorney and officers not working cases. Seen like maybe need to remember that when it comes time for a change in a couple years. It is sad they aren’t doing what we pay them for. SAD!!!!
I agree. Vote them out.
Why the picture?
Ummm ok… 🙄🙄
Wow!! That girl did the right thing!!!! Everybody needs a gun to protect their selves!!!! An unloaded gun is of no purpose when somebody is trying to break n your house!!!!! Good job!!!!
If she had better gun control, there wouldn’t be any suspects!!
When one agrees with one’s self… two times especially, shouldn’t they change their user name…Citizen?
Kudos to the parents who trained their daughter on how to safely operate a weapon. Durning the moment, people tend to forget breathing and trigger control because the adrenaline rush is so high. Traumatic and psychological episodes may haunt her for the rest of her life, it could have been worse with killing the suspects. Hopefully they are arrested and convicted
