USING THE SUN FOR POWER, PROFIT IN KY.

More than 60 football fields worth of new solar panels are generating electricity today in Northern Kentucky.

Duke Energy unveiled its new solar energy farm in Walton, Ky. Tuesday. Duke put 17,024 solar panels on 60 acres at 352 York Road in southern Kenton County.

The new power plant is off U.S. 25 just south of the city of Walton in Boone County. 

An 11,500-solar-panel farm owned by Duke has also been opened at 922 Ruark Road south of Crittenden in Grant County. The Walton and Crittenden solar power farms started producing electricity for the grid Dec. 14, 2017.

A SIMILAR PLAN HAS BEEN PROPOSED FOR ABANDONED STRIP MINE LANDS IN PIKE CO. BUT NO WORD HAS BEEN AVAILABLE ON THE PROGRESS OF THAT PROJECT.

It cost 14.8 million to build and will supply 1500 customers. That’s 9866 dollars per customer. Let’s say the average utility bill is only 200 and we know that’s not the case especially in NKY. Now of that 200 average bill say 100 goes towards the cost of this farm. That means just at that average cost per customer they will have the initial investiment paid off in 99 months (8 years and 3 months). The life span on the panels alone is 20 years so that’s pretty much another 11 years and 9 months of profits minus preventive maintenance. Right won’t pay for itself. Don’t forget I’m sure they are getting tax credits as well just like coal and oil has gotten for years which will probably have it paid for by the end of this year. Face it, no matter what happens going forward coal is fading and going backwards.

it wont pay for its self in 100 years unless they raise the price to criminal levels.. useless to every one.
