In Wayne County this morning some teachers including the Mayor of Fort Gay, Joetta Hatfield, are headed to the Capitol in Charleston, WV, while other teachers will continue to strike here at home.
This is part of a statewide teacher strike in response to Senate Bill 451. The strike, for now, is on a day to day basis.
Mayor Hatfield had this statement, “Obviously this is the last thing we wanted… but we will stand our ground! We hope everyone supports us as we fight for all WV Students! Please remember this strike is not about pay raises, this is about so much more…. taxes, charter schools, funding public education, seniority! We are Back & We are Stronger than before! #55STRONG”.
