While Kentucky Suffers, Gov. Andy Beshear plays the Blame Game on Unemployment Backlog
Frankfort, KY – More than 50,000 Kentuckians still have yet to receive the unemployment insurance benefits they were promised by Governor Andy Beshear. While the backlog still persists, Governor Beshear continues to make excuses and place the blame for his failures elsewhere.
“After months of excuses and delay, Governor Beshear needs to stop playing the blame game, accept responsibility and fix his failure to deliver unemployment insurance to the more than 50,000 Kentuckians still waiting for it,” Republican Party of Kentucky spokesman Mike Lonergan said. “Despite nearly 1 million Kentuckians being out of work as a direct result of Beshear’s executive orders, he and his administration continue to refuse to accept responsibility while blaming everyone else.”
The first week of June, Governor Beshear fired 675 workers from the unemployment office. Throughout June, Kentuckians from all over the state have been forced to travel to Frankfort to fight for their unemployment benefits – and even still many are turned away.
In March, after the coronavirus outbreak began in Kentucky, Beshear hired a failed Democrat politician to run the Kentucky Office of Unemployment Insurance.
On March 16, Beshear acknowledged that his orders were going to put Kentuckians out of work. As the backlog of unemployment insurance claims continued to pile up, Beshear’s director continued to focus on sending extremist and vulgar partisan tweets.
In April, the Office of Unemployment Insurance’s computer system experienced a major cybersecurity breach, but the Beshear Administration failed to disclose the incident for more than a month, despite being required to do so within days.
The day the Beshear Administration finally disclosed the cybersecurity breach, Beshear announced that the Office of Unemployment Insurance was being transferred to another agency due to a lack of results. Nearly a month later, the failed political candidate Beshear put in charge of the unemployment office is still working in his administration – with a raise of nearly $20,000.

Who’s playing the Blame Game…. sounds like the Ky Repubs are taking the same road as Trump…. it’s not working for him right now so you may want to change your strategy…
Governor you promised… remember? You said “it’s on me”.. Now go tell the 50,000 citizens of Kentucky you have let down. You’re not hurting… they are! Your family gets fed…are theirs? Hope you do better!!!
let’s see the republican’s in Frankfort shut down the unemployment offices and are blaming Andy right out of the Orange clown’s playbook
Bevin may have cause the initial problem but Lil Andy has had 4 months to get it going. After four months, it’s on him. Any thing the prior governor might have done is history. Get on the ball and get this done.
Be nice to know who wrote this when I write something I put my name on it. I will not fault the Governor nor anyone else for taking action they thought will protect people. This virus isn’t over yet we’ve been fortunate it’s not been a lot worse in Kentucky
I just don’t understand why KY had to virtually shut down when they are opening everything with more cases than there has ever been!!! So why did Andy and other governors shut everything down when it doesn’t matter now??? Did they really think the virus was going to “blow over” after 2 or 3 weeks???? We got fed a big case of crap!!!
