2016 District Champions
Pikeville, Ky. — Lawrence Co. sprinted past Pikeville 7-0 on Thursday night at Bob Amos Park to capture the 58th District Soccer championship for the sixth straight season. The Dawgs moved to 15-2-2 on the year as both teams will advance to the 15th Region tournament that will start Monday at Shelby Valley.
On Wednesday night at Bob Amos Park the Dawgs jumped all over Pike Co. Central and came away with a mercy shortened 10-0 victory in the first round of the 58th District tournament in Pikeville.
Lawrence Co. will play Prestonsburg ( 16-2 ) on Monday night at Shelby Valley high school in the semifinals of the 15th region tournament at 6:15. The teams played to a 2-2 draw in August at Lawrence Co. In the second game at 8:15 it will be Johnson Central ( 14-7 ) vs Pikeville ( 10-8 ) the two winners will meet on Thursday at 7:00.

In the win over Pike Co. Central:
Victoria Clevenger scored 5 goals, Sarah Lycans tallied 3 goals, Raegan Crum and Kylie Maynard scored 1 each. Lycans had 2 assist, Maynard and Emily Webb also had 2 assist, Kelly Davis and Zayla Granillo had 1 assist each.
In the Championship game vs Pikeville. Clevenger scored 3 goals putting her at 100 career goals. Lycans had 1 goal and 1 assist, Maynard, Granillo, and Scyler Bowens scored one each and Maci Pollack had an assist in the victory.

“… This is a great group of girls who have accomplished a lot this year. We have improved as this season has gone on and we are ready for regions next week.” I’m proud of what we have been able to do this year, but we are not done. We said it since day one that we want a regional championship and it’s time to step up and achieve it.” It will be a challenge next week against Prestonsburg, but I’m excited for it. We need to play tough, aggressive & smart to come away with the win. Monday night is going to be a show, get ready! Proud of Victoria Clevenger for achieving 100 goals on her career. Clevenger is a hard worker and I’m happy for her.”
