Louisa, Ky — In a rematch of the 2018 Girls Soccer State Tournament Lawrence Co. ( 3-2 ) exacted some revenge with a 3-1 victory over Russell ( 2-3 ) Tuesday night at the LCHS Soccer Complex.
Senior Sarah Lycans scored 11 minutes into the second half tying the score at 1 apiece and brought some fresh air into the SoccerDawgs who were staring at their third straight defeat after only losing two games all of last season.
Sophomore Jasmine Justice gave Lawrence Co. the lead for good with a goal just a couple minutes later.
Junior Ellie Webb put the finishing touches on the victory with eight minutes left in the contest and Senior Goal Keeper Ally Moore did the rest to keep the high powered Russell offense in check.
Lawrence Co. will return to action when they travel to Belfry ( 3-2 ) for the first District matchup of the young season.

Coach’s Comments
“… I challenged the captains tonight and they responded, last two games against quality opponents and we didn’t play very well. They all stepped up and let them know what needed to be done and showed them.”
“… Ally Moore was awesome. To me if there’s better goal keeper out there I would like to see them.”
“… Coming off of two consecutive losses to Boyd Co and Cabell Midland it was important for us to come out and get a win. Our 1st half of play was sloppy and slow with very little hustle and we found ourselves down 1-0 at the half. During our halftime talk our 4 captains (Ally Moore, Sarah Lycans, Hayleah Fletcher and Ellie Webb) stepped in and let our team know exactly what we needed and that it was doable to overcome the 1-0 deficit.”
“… We came out the 2nd half a different team scoring 3 goals holding Russell to zero. The first came from Sarah Lycans about 11 min in and then Jasmine Justice found herself in perfect position to get the go ahead goal with 17 min to play. With 7 min remaining Ellie Webb played her own rebound off the cross bar to put us up 3-1 for the final score. I can’t say enough of the work the team put in the second half. It was an absolute team effort and that is what it will take the rest of the season.”
