FRANKFORT – Senate Democratic Floor Leader Ray S. Jones II, D-Pikeville, yesterday sent a letter to officials at the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) asking for a public hearing before the proposed Kentucky Power rate increase.
“The proposed increase is significant and will cause serious hardship for the people of the community,” said Jones. “A public hearing will give our people the chance to discuss the impact the proposed rate hike will have on their lives.”
Kentucky Power has proposed a 15 percent increase on residential customers. That increase was lowered from the nearly 17 percent after customers made complaints to Kentucky Power.
“Our people are struggling now and this proposed increase will only make that struggle more difficult,” said Jones.
In the letter to the PSC, Jones asked that the public hearing also be held before December 6, the day Kentucky Power and intervenors are set to begin cross-examination and the presentation of witnesses on the proposed hike. He also requested that it be set far enough in advance for Kentucky Power’s customers to be able to make plans to attend and that the location be accommodating for those who wished to attend, such as the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center.
Jones said this issue is important and could affect everyone in the Kentucky Power service area.
