Miriacle Mike!
For many anxious hours nearly everyone in Inez and part of Lawrence county was holding their breaths, but more importantly praying earnestly for a young brother in the church and leader of youth at his job as principal of Inez Elementary school.
The word spread like wildfire about an accident involving IES principal Michael Marcum, who crashed into the rear of a logging truck about 3:30 pm Monday suffering extensive injuries that required him being flown by Medi-Vac to Pikeville Medical Center.
He is being treated for head trauma, broken ribs, a dislocated hip, bruised eye socket but no broken arms or legs. He remains in Intensive care at PMC. He is alert and responsive and physical and occupation therapy were to begin Friday.
Some estimates are that Marcum was traveling about 55 and that the truck was either slow moving or parked on the side of the road.
Marcum is an integral part of both the Inez and the Ullysses areas because of his work and because of his winning spirit. He and his wife Jenny and their three children live in Lawrence county near the 645 exit of Rt. 23.
When the great host of prayers went up for Michael, who was airlifted from the scene near a logging operation off Rt. 645, something took place that amazed doctors and family members.
He survived.
Michael Marcum is now sitting up, eating applesauce and is conversing with staff and family members as this is being written. Miracle? …Look at the pics and you be the judge!
Here is what WYMT had to say:

Michael Marcum was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment.
UPDATE:
An outpouring of love and support is coming from the community of Inez as its elementary School Principal was involved in a crash with a log truck Monday on route 645.
Michael Marcum is not only making an impact on his community but its future as he is helping shape the minds of young people in Martin County.
Lance Tackett credits Marcum for his ability to believe in himself.
“He taught me to be responsible and to do the things I needed to do,” said Tackett. “When we were in Elementary School he just really pushed the fact to stay in school, do your work, and really chase your dreams. And do what you really want to do with your life and not waste time.”
As a result, Tackett will soon be a college student.
“He played a big role in that he really did. He just pushed me to do whatever I needed to do and chase my dreams,” said Tackett.
Marcum is not only influencing young minds but their spirits as well. Meades Branch Freewill Baptist Church member Kelsie May says Marcum impacts her and an entire congregation every Sunday.
“He is a mouthpiece for the Lord through and through. And this community and this world need someone like him,” said May. “He has so much love in his heart.”
But to be the hands and feet of Jesus is more than just preaching.
“You know I remember sitting in those church pews and I have believed in God my entire life, but until I set foot in his church and heard him really speak…not only speak but live out the actions of God in His word it really made the hugest impact on me,” said May.
Even in his time of trial Marcum is able to be a vessel for the message he carries to the congregation on Sunday.
“What happened yesterday is a true testament to God’s power. Because so many people have prayed for him and it’s a true testament to the power of prayer,” said May.
Loving one another is central in Christain faith and teaching. That love Marcum teaches about was evident in what transpired after the crash.
“When we went to the hospital it was such a fellowship there. So many people from the community went to the hospital. We gathered and we prayed and we cried, we hugged and we told each other we loved one another. Even though some of us had never met in our lives,” May described.
Family members say Marcum is in stable condition but has a long road of recovery ahead.
