The Louisa Chapter of DAR met on September 25, 2018 in the cafe of Louisa FBC. The meeting was called to order by Regent Sabrina May. After opening Rituals, treasurer Evelyn DeBoard read the current finance report. Secretary Lynn Courtney read the minutes from August meeting.
DAR participated in SeptemberFest activities with a float and received the $300 1st place award and also a booth selling the Veterans-book volume I and II and the DAR cookbook. Over 300 books were sold. The funds will be used for the Good Citizen Scholarship that is given each Spring to a deserving senior at LCHS and for the many good causes the DAR is involved in through the year.
September 17th – 25th was Constitution Week. Historian Theresa Chaffin and Lynn Courtney placed a a display at the LC public library. Mayor Harold Slone and Judge executive John Osborne declared Constitution Week for the city and County with certificates
Also, the Louisa Chapter was represented by members with a booth on the Harvest Tour at Savage Farms on Saturday September 29th. Baked goods, books, and calendars were sold.
State Literacy Chair and Louisa Chapter 1st vice Regent announced Louisa Chapter will celebrate Family Literacy Day with our annual book giveaway on November 1st. Food City will be hosting the event this year . We will have a Furry Friend as a special guest and will be a great photo op for kids. The event will be outside in front of Food City. Also there will be free drinks and Food City will be providing free cookies. There will be tons of free books for all ages. The Chapter gives a big thank you for being the venue for this very important event.
News letters were mailed out last week.Some addresses have not been updated. If you did not receive one please contact the DAR office in the old courthouse on Thursdays between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. You can also update your address when dues are sent in by noting new address or address changed.
The hostesses were Freddie Daniels, Wanda Cassady, and Reba Whitt. They treated everyone with beautiful Fall decor and tasty delights from Rebel Barn Catering.
A beautiful handmade Doily was donated to the chapter by Janice Spencer. Tickets are on sale and a drawing for the doily will be at the October meeting.
The next meeting will be held on October 23, 2018 in the cafe of Louisa FBC at 6:00 pm.
