NOTE: I wrote this today while sitting in front of a computer doing “virtual” teaching. I had made an assignment and was waiting on questions from students. I started thinking about a “normal” school day where I was walking around interacting with students and how much I really missed that interaction and how our youth miss that interaction.
Some folks won’t believe this but I do read all the information on this pandemic. By the way, COVID is almost a “Not” pandemic. Look at the numbers.
And, before anyone starts trying to guilt-trip me, don’t. I sincerely feel sorrow for anyone who has lost a loved one because of COVID. BUT, and its all caps for a reason, how do we really know if someone died because of COVID or because of other circumstances.
I will say this over and over, it is time to get back to some resemblance of normalcy.
As an educator I see the sorrow in students eyes. Students need to be back in the classroom, with their friends, learning and working towards a promising future.
I am 58 years old and while I do not have any illnesses that I know of, I am NOT afraid to go to school each day. I actually look forward to it. The students look forward to it also and they miss it the most.
Our elected leaders seem to thrive on giving the bad news each day. That statement was hard for me to say. I watch the daily briefings from KY and WV each day. While I know that being a Governor of a state comes with enormous responsibility I just can not rationalize the message they spew each day.
COVID has always been barely a pandemic. The numbers simply do not indicate a pandemic. Yes, I know of all the stories of people on ventilators, fighting for their lives, but the numbers simply do not show this should be something we should stop the world for.
I know some will disagree with this. I can hear them say ” We have to wait until there is a vaccine.” or “How would you feel if it was one of your loved-ones that was dying?” One of the things I will always remember my dad saying is ” the number one cause of death is life.”
I have read about the first Flu vaccine. History shows that, in the beginning, the cure was worse than the disease. Just today National news told the story of a potential vaccine for COVID that was causing adverse effects on patients.
I get it. COVID is a nasty varmint. But, even after almost 6 months, it only affects about 3% of the population. Yet we are not reaching about 50% of our youth because of the stipulations placed on us by the “government”.
Before anyone pulls out their guns on me, think about your school days. I was never a “school nerd” but I always loved going to school. I had friends that I needed to see and talk to. I had teachers that I looked forward to their greetings. Imagine having that stripped away by something that most adults can not agree on?
I have always stood with the students. Sometimes that put me in the opposite corner of the administration OR those who control things. I still stand with the students.
It is time to accept the fact that we have a new virus to live with. Let’s put on our masks, get back to normal and get on with life. Our youth deserve this.
Well said kind sir! You have what most of the population would call “common sense” and a brain. Most likely your not a die hard vote democrat straight ticket kind of person! You’ve said what most think. Anyone who disagrees is clearly blinded by what the left likes to spin and can be persuaded to do anything evidently. I’m just afraid for our future generations that’s taught by those in the educational system that agrees with everything that’s going on. Those are the ones who warps the minds of our young ones and turns them into the looters you see out here destructing and getting offended on someone else’s behalf whom might I say statistically is far more privileged than most in society today. It all goes back to the parenting at home and how your raised. Rant over good day sir.
I agree. We should be pushing to get back to normal all the way around.
Finally, someone speaking the real facts on here! Thank you sir for a well-written, truthful post.
As if you would know a fact if someone slapped you in the mouth with one.
Sorry Joe.
I mean if it isn’t happening in Kentucky that means it isn’t real. I bet those folks in New York, Florida, Texas and Florida feel exactly the same as Me. Allen.
You sound like someone who moved to Ohio from KY, and after two weeks thinks they know everything!
Bobby, you think in an analytical mindset, and I’m not saying you are wrong. I hope in fact that you are right. Let us pretend you’re analysis were a controlled study. What is the population being studied, Louisa, Kentucky, America or the world? I would ask, is 6 months enough time to reach a conclusion? Is your control group growing, sustained or declining? Where would you find a ‘placebo’ group to study? In the second to last sentence you state “Let’s put on our masks, get back to normal and get on with life”. How is that not a direct contradiction? What if there are some outliers, such as, but not limited to the possibility that Covid 19 is a genetically biologically engineered weapon that escaped from the bio-weapons lab that is very close to the so called ‘wet market’ in China? (Of course everyone claims it doesn’t exist). Let us insert it as a huge outlier. There may also be others? Wouldn’t that blow a scientific analysis all to hell? My opinion would be a more ‘wait and see’ approach. Like I said early on, I hope you are right, but I ask you…what if you aren’t.
