Mountain Movers Theatre will be teaching theatre and will host summer camps and shows beginning this summer in Louisa, KY at the Garden Theatre, directly across from the old courthouse next to the Junction. Mountain Movers Theatre has an experienced team, including Kim and Darryl Willard,
formerly the Managing Director and Education Director of Jenny Wiley Footlights.
For Summer 2019, Mountain Movers Theatre will be hosting two separate camps. Each camp will prepare the campers for public performances of the show. The first camp, Ronald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Kids, will be for children ages 6-12 and take place June 17-22. The public performances will be held Friday, June 21 at 6pm and Saturday, June 22 at 3:00pm and 6pm. The second camp, Disney’s Frozen Jr., will be for children ages 6-17 and take place June 24-July 6 at 3pm and 6pm.
The owners of the Garden Theatre, Tim and Lelia Robinson, are completing a renovation of the historic venue in downtown Louisa, Ky and will host the inaugural 2019 summer camps and shows of the Mountain Movers Theatre Company. They purchased the Garden Theatre several years ago and now have it ready for events. Working closely with Mountain Movers Theatre, they desire to help new generations of Kentuckians discover their destinies and provide a platform for them to pursue their artistic passions and live their dreams.
The history of the Garden Theatre goes back in time, Michael Coburn who has published articles on the history of the theatre, said some of his readers had this to say,
“I attended movies and other events there from preschool days, during grade school and even high school.”
“I took dates there and I saw the cowboy movies and the weekly serials there.”
“I had my chair up front on the right side of the isle”.
…In 2008, The Garden Theater located in Louisa, Ky was purchased and renovated. Hidden in the ceiling for the past seventy years was a wonderful collection of movie posters, window cards, lobby cards, sheets, heralds and banners. These are original advertisements from the 1920’s and 1930’s
Kentucky is famous for the number of performers who are from this very area and Mountain Movers wants to install some of these skills to the youth giving them the chance to learn about theatre, drama, skits, stage performance and more.
